BOCCE SEASON ENDS FOR US

It’s all over. The bocce season ended for us last night. We lost.

We played the #3 team from the monday night league. We destroyed them the first game. They destroyed us in return the second game. The third game was for all the marbles.

We were losing 13-2. We made a comeback. The score was 15-13. They won 16-13.

The best season ever for us. Ended up second in the thursday night league. Drew a bye in the playoffs before losing last night.

An outstanding season!

The finals today. We will not be playing.

Spent the day time yesterday researching this week’s KONK column. Paris has been in the news frequently because of the terrorist attack. I wanted to write something about Paris. I decided on the Eiffel Tower. The column will be written this afternoon.

A double header in effect yesterday re Syracuse.

The football team won the last game of the season. Beat Boston College 20-17.  A poor football season for Syracuse. Glad we won the last one.

Coach Shafer was fired last week. He agreed to coach the last game, however. The players carried him off the field on their shoulders after the game.

Syracuse basketball big this past week. Beat two ranked teams in winning the Atlantis tournament. CBS Sports Top 25 (plus one) ranks teams daily. Yesterday, Syracuse was ranked #13. Great! Unreal at the same time.

I don’t know how Syracuse will end the season. They played terrific basketball in the tournament, however. The team deserves to be ranked.

The Putin/Erdogan fiasco continues. Putin yesterday imposed severe sanctions on Turkey. Putin said he was throwing the gauntlet down. He refused to accept telephone calls from Erdogan.

The defense analyst who said the two were measuring their dicks was correct. Yesterday was Putin’s turn.

Enjoy your sunday!

OUTSTANDING THANKSGIVING DINNER

Absolutely fantastic! Lisa out did herself. Best Thanksgiving meal in years.

Ally helped with the pumpkin and apple pies the night before.

I over ate. As was my intention. Weighed in heavily on the turkey, stuffing and pumpkin pie.

Even Jake had a good time! We fed him bread and turkey from the table. Jake is a beggar. He knows how to get what he wants.

I had not seen Jake in a while. When I first entered and sat down, he jumped in my lap and started licking my face. Jake is little more than 3 years old. It took two years for him to like me. I was the enemy when I entered the house before.

My bloated stomach and I went home early. Dinner was at one. Syracuse was playing Connecticut in basketball at 3:30.

Great game! First top shelf opponent Syracuse has played this season. Connecticut ranked #18. Syracuse unranked. Connecticut a 10 point favorite. Syracuse won 79-76.

Syracuse was down 10 in the first half. Up 10 in the second half. Both quality teams.

Syracuse has four shooters. Each can shoot 3s. We could use a real big man.

I was inspired by the game.

Syracuse plays Texas Tech in the finals of the tournament this afternoon. Three o’clock my time on ESPN. Texas Tech ranked. Texas Tech beat ranked Gonzaga by 1 point yesterday.

Should be an excellent game!

Never had dinner. Took my heavy belly to bed and fell asleep early.

My KONK Life column this week is Muslim Refugees…..No. Published in E-Blast this morning. Also linked to my Key West Lou website this morning.

Could be controversial. I expected it to be.

All comments thus far agree with me. One thanked me for having the courage to write the article. I never considered courage when I decided on the topic. The issue a current one. It was not being discussed intelligently. My intent was to open the door to unspoken considerations.

A place to be this week is the Casa Marina beach. The International Sand Art Competition. Six contestants. From as far as Spain and Holland. The art structures works in progress. Worked on daily through Saturday. Sunday the winner will be announced.

I have a doctor visit at 11. All I seem to do is visit doctors. Not complaining. I will do the necessary. Health not to be screwed with at 80.

Enjoy your day!

ALL BUT THE HORSE

I was at the bar at Tavern ‘n Town last night engrossed in the newspaper and sipping a drink. I suddenly sensed something/someone next to me.

She was lovely! Decked out in cowboy hat and boots. A leopard sundress in between.

She looked familiar. She kept smiling. Finally, I said I know we’ve met but I can’t remember where or when or your name.

She laughed and nodded her head to someone further down the bar. Then it came to me. Joyce and Bill. We had met at Tavern ‘n Town a month ago. Joyce lives on Cudjoe and Bill Sugarloaf.

They invited me to join them for dinner. We had a very good time! An excellent evening!

Bill is a Penn State grad. We discussed why Penn State stopped playing Syracuse in football years back. His version, the Penn State version, I had never heard.

The evening was filled with laughter and good talk.

Began yesterday with the anti-gravity treadmill. Body Owners a great place. They make bodies work again. Jenny takes good care of me.

I had to hurry home afterwards. My friday interview on 104.9 radio. I am questioned re the KONK Life column I write each week. Sex Tales of Old easily handled. Interesting stories about how sex impacted the lives of certain historical figures.

Had a doctor visit later in the afternoon. Then stopped at Sq. 1 for a drink. Jason bartending. It was happy hour. Food looked great. Drinks cheap. Beefeaters $4. Anywhere else, $10-12. I recommend the place.

Bocce playoffs begin this afternoon at 3. If we win, we play again at 5. If we win again, we play tomorrow.

May the gods be with us!

The whole scenario exciting! A festive occasion. Colorful sun tents for the players. Hamburgers and hot dogs for the players. People come to watch. Bring the kids and babies along. Blankets strewn about. Coolers with food and drink. Everyone having a good time.

Because of Paris, security in the lime light again.

Read an interesting item re airport security this morning. The Department of Homeland Security announced that 73 TSA airport employees are on the terrorist watch list. All approved for access to secure areas.

What the hell is going on? Doesn’t anyone pay attention to these things?

Syracuse basketball tonight. Syracuse plays Elon. Never heard of them. We are expected to win big. 16.5 point favorite. Game at 7. Bocce should be over by then. I  will be watching.

Enjoy your day!

SECOND PLACE!!!

What a night!

It was the last night of the regular bocce season. We thought we would end up third for the season. If we played badly, fourth. If we played well and the number two team screwed up, we had a chance at second place.

We did good. Won all three games. The number two team lost two. All of a sudden, we were in second place!

Exciting!

Never been there before. We have had a couple of fourth and fifth place finishes. This season, the best ever.

The playoffs start tomorrow. Top five teams from all four leagues. Twenty teams competing. Because of our high finish, we draw a bye for the first round.

We play at 3 tomorrow. If we win, we then play at 5. Have to win both matches tomorrow to go on to the sunday games.

We won decisively last night. 16-7, 16-7, and 16-8.

I played terrible. Worse than that. Only one good shot. The last one I threw. Interestingly, it was the one that won the game. My partner Keith carried me the whole way.

New pictures for AlterG yesterday when I went to do the anti-gravity treadmill. Much better. My gut does not show.

5 Guys for lunch. Stayed a couple of hours reading the newspapers.

I will be on the radio today. Interview time 12:15-12-30. I will be answering questions about this week’s KONK Life column Sex Tales of Old. 104.9. I am becoming the Dr. Kinsey of Key West. Not really. My stories are from older times and not of a personal nature.

My Sex Tales of Old column appears in this morning’s KONK News. It also was linked to my Key West Lou website this morning. keywestlou.com.

College Road power poles down all day yesterday. More work today.

There was much discussion at bocce last night about the poles being down. One of the players works for Keys Electic. We all thought the poles were cement. Looked cement in the newspaper yesterday. We were all wrong. They were wood.

WordPress continues to be a problem. I believe you are all receiving this blog. However commenting might not be doable. One of the sections fouled up. Someone please write me a Hello Louis comment so I will know whether the blog is receiving.

Sloan still working on the problem. I suspect it will be late saturday or sunday before it is corrected. Sorry.

Enjoy your day!

IMPREGNATION COSTLY

This morning’s Key West Citizen’s History section made brief mention of a 1993 court case where one dog owner sued another dog owner because his dog got pregnant. Cost the impregnating dog owner $2,567.50.

The bite sounded interesting. I researched it. Following is what I came up with.

Rocky is the male. A seven pound Chihuahua. Canella is the female. An eighty pound Rottweiler. Rocky a lover. Canella receptive to playing.

Rocky did it to Canella.

The dogs were neighbors. Rocky was fenced in. Canella leashed on her owner’s deck. Canella in heat.

Rocky was not to be denied. Somehow he got out of the fence and made it to Canella. The two then proceeded to have intercourse. Canella not objecting.

Picture little Rocky pumping away at Canella.

Canella’s owner saw what was happening. He rushed out and tried to pull them away. To no avail. Even hosed them.

An animal officer happened to be driving by. He saw it all. Photographed the scene because it was so funny. Little Rocky getting his.

Canella got pregnant.

Canella was pedigreed. Her owner wanted her to be impregnated by another pedigreed Rottweiler. Canella ended up carrying ten puppies by Rocky.

Rather than have her deliver, Canella was subjected to a hysterectomy. No viable puppies obviously. The hysterectomy left Canella sterile.

Canella’s owner sued. The judge awarded him $2,567.50. I am not sure for what specifically. Most likely, the cost of the hysterectomy. Perhaps that the owner would not have pedigreed Rottweilers to sell in the future.

I spent all of yesterday at home. Intentionally. A perfect day for it.

I researched this week’s KONK Life column. A change of pace article. The unknown sexually related exploits of historical figures. People like Julius Caesar, Christopher Columbus, and Betsy Ross.

I will write the column later today.

Watched Syracuse/Clemson in the late afternoon. A good game. Syracuse was always in the game till the final minutes. There was a chance. Hope was kept alive.

Syracuse lost 37-27.

The team played well again, in spite of losing. They played without #1 quarterback Eric Dungey who was out with a head injury from last week. Mahoney, #4 quarterback, lead the team and did a good job.

The game got screwed up early in the 4th quarter. Syracuse was penalized 45 yards in less than two minutes. This was after recovering the ball around mid field.

The third 15 yard penalty was because of the coach’s conduct. He went crazy regarding the second 15 yard penalty call. Gave Syracuse its third 15 yard loss.

Had none of this occurred, Syracuse might have won the game. There was the chance. The team still hung in. If my recollection is correct, Clemson was able to score as a result of the penalties.

Next year!

The game was followed by the Democratic Debate last night. I am a political junkie. Last night’s performance was unimpressive. I am getting bored with an appearing wild Sanders waving his arms and saying the same things. Hillary is no better. Her boiler plated responses have become boring. She is beginning to sound hollow. The third candidate reminds me of a cheerleader. One with a great smile.

Power boat races end today. Every thing is on the line.

The water is rough in front of my home. It will be rougher out where they will be racing.

An organization called SMART Kids rode their bicycles into Key West yesterday. Adults. Four hundred strong. A two day trip beginning in Miami. The purpose to raise money for AIDS.

I hope to get out later in the day. I am going to try Kate Miano’s Gardens again.

Bocce rankings in the paper. We still are in third place. Next week the last. We probably will end up third. Could be fourth. An outside chance it will be second place. Depends on who wins and loses their last three games Thursday.

Enjoy your Sunday!

BOCCE…..ONE WIN

Great bocce last night!

We won 1 out of 3 games. I mentioned yesterday morning we would be happy with one victory. So no complaints this morning.

The interesting thing is all the games were relatively close. We held our own against the best.

No question, this has been the best season ever for us. Not a fluke. We have gotten consistently better over the years. Our game has moved to another level.

The loss will probably not affect our 3rd place standing.

Next week is the last night of this season.

Had a follow up visit with Dr. Jackie Lefferts yesterday afternoon re my fall. I still have occasional pain when I move certain ways. A muscle/ bruised rib injury. I am mending. Pain 75 percent better.

An interesting development. More and more locals who attended Fantasy Fest this year are complaining about the nudity and sex. The people I am speaking with are not goody two shoes. They are fun people, out on the town most evenings. They found the conduct bothersome. Thought the problem generated from the swinger involvement.

I will be interviewed between 12:20 and 12:40 this afternoon on KONK News. 104.9. The discussion concerns this week’s KONK Life column Dracula in the Operating Room. Love the title!

Trump continues to make questionable statements. Whether they will affect his standing remains to be seen.

Trump is big on immigration. He said he is going to use a deportation force to remove the 11 million illegals from the United States. Sounds to me like the Gestapo rounding up Jews in Nazi Germany.

Trump relies as authority for what he wants to do with what Eisenhower did with 1.1 million illegal immigrants in 1954. Eisenhower used a deportation force. I like Ike. He screened up in this instance, however.

Ships were used in some instances to move the illegals. A Congressional investigation following the deportations described one ship as an “18th century slave ship” and “penal hell ship.”

What has begun at the University of Missouri and spread to Yale and Ithaca College bothers me. Protests, demonstrations and revolutions have in recent years been led by the young. Many, if not most, college students.

The demonstrations against the police re black killings and now these college demonstrations involve young demonstrators. I worry that at some point one might get out of hand and ignite a national conflagration. Don’t say no. Things are not as they should be in every area today. Nothing is impossible.

Enjoy your day!

I FELL AGAIN

I fell again. Last night. At bocce.

A step involved again.

I had just made a great bocce shot. I was excited. I turned around swiftly and stepped up out of the court. A six inch rise. Moved too fast. Did not lift my right foot enough. Stubbed my right foot on the rise/step.

Little damage. A one inch in diameter scrape. Bit of bleeding. Washed it off and someone gave me a large band aid.

Why do I mention these falls?

This blog is, amongst other things, my Life in Key West. Falling has become a part of that life.

We won all three bocce games. Wowie! Next week we play the #1 team. The best of the best! They are miles ahead of every other team in the league. Including ours. Not a negative observation. A factual one. We will be up for the match, however.

My yesterday began with the anti-gravity treadmill. Impossible to fall on it. I am locked in from the waist down.

Then to 5 Guys for a cheeseburger. I have tried to avoid meat for a week. I had a sudden desire for beef. Enjoyed the cheeseburger!

Not many people in 5 Guys. Strange. Three when I entered at 12:30. Three more came in while I was there.

The Parrot Heads Convention this week. The Parrot Heads are holding their convention at Casa Marina. They were joined last night by Jimmy Buffett! The Parrot Heads have been Jimmy Buffett followers for 24 years.

Buffett announced he will be playing in Havana saturday night. Wonderful! An example the US/Cuba reconciliation is working.

I will be on the radio today. KONK News. 104.9. Sometime between noon and one o’clock. I will be interviewed concerning this week’s KONK Life column The Looting of Social Security.

Democrat debate tonight. Rachel Maddow the moderator. Her questions will be right on in comparison to what the Republican candidates have been subjected to.

I will be watching. Friday night home in Key West watching a political debate! Love it!

Power Boat Races start this weekend. Exciting and dangerous! US 1 will be crowded today with boats being towed in for the races.

Syracuse plays Louisville tomorrow. Louisville a two touchdown favorite. Does not bother me. I hope we win. Not important at this point in the season, however. Next year we will be much better. The following year in the mix. Syracuse is heavy with freshmen  and sophomore players. Most of whom are starting this season.

Ben Carson is starting to worry me. Joseph built the pyramids to store wheat? If so, where did all the jewelry and mummies come from that I have spent years viewing in various museums? Why does the Old Testament fail to mention Joseph’s feat? The answer simple. It did not happen as Carson portrays.

Carson wanted to or did hit his mother in the head and wanted to stab or did stab a friend in his early years. Tied in with the Joseph belief, I am beginning to question his state of mind to be President.

Enjoy your day!

MASQUERADE MARCH

Fantasy Fest continues!

Two biggies today. The Masquerade March and the Bourbon Street Pub Tea Dance.

The Masquerade March has grown over the years. Initially, it was a bunch of locals and tourists dressed in costumes who walked from the cemetery to Duval. Now numbers in the thousands. A second route had to be added several years ago.

Both groups will leave from the cemetery. One takes the old route up Fleming. The other, the new way. People party in front of their homes and on porches. The marchers are cheered on.

I have never marched. However, I have enjoyed several great porch parties over the years.

Key West’s gay intersection is Duval and Petronia. Two popular gay bars are cross cornered from each other. 801 and the Bourbon St. Pub. A big event starting at 1 this afternoon at the intersection. The event is called the Bourbon Street Pub Tea Dance.

A scaffold is erected in the center of the intersection. Two levels plus the street. The two levels have music makers.

There is a guy in black leather with his butt exposed playing a guitar on top every year. Ladies climb the scaffolding to dance. People dance in the street. Where room can be found. The intersection is packed throughout the event.

Bocce last night. Missed the toga party for it.

We played Larry’s team. We were tied with them for third. I am happy to announce we won all three games! Everyone on our team played well. We had to if we were to beat the opposition.

My yesterday began with the anti-gravity treadmill at Body Owners. Then grocery shopping at Publix. I enjoy grocery shopping. I meet old friends and make new ones.

An attractive woman and I kept running into each other. Finally, she jokingly said…..I’m stalking you. I responded…..Please do!

I will be on the radio for 15 minutes at 12:30. 104.9. KONK News. Guy deBoer will be interviewing me re this week’s KONK Life column Boudicca, Warrior Woman.

It was announced yesterday that China is changing its policy from one child per family to two. Some news persons said it was because China needed added workers for its developing manufacturing industry.

Not correct. I did a TV show on the topic four years ago and wrote about the issue one year ago.

Four years ago, China announced it was studying whether to go from one to two children per couple. It took till now for China to make the decision.

The reason four years ago was who was to take care of the elderly. In China, the young always had taken care of the old. By limiting the number of children, China had limited the number available to care for elderly parents.

Last year, China discussed another problem. Under the one child rule, more girls than boys had been born. A significant number. The boys are now young men. There were not enough ladies to go around for marriage or sex.

Single Chinese men are traveling to the Korean border to engage in sex with Korean prostitutes.

In addition, a new business was born. The men wanted wives. The prostitutes sold themselves for an entire year agreeing to live as a man’s wife.

Such did not solve the problem entirely. Still not enough ladies. Multiple partners were born. Two to four men contract with one prostitute who would be the common wife of all of them for one year.

Enjoy your day!

I HURT

Amazing! I go weeks without falling. Thought the problem had been corrected. Apparently not. One of the reasons I was falling is because I was not paying attention when using stairs. My falls were always either going up or down stairs.

The fall yesterday morning was going up stairs. I know why it happened. I was not paying attention! I was in a hurry and failed to look and lift my feet sufficiently.

Old age!

My rib cage on the left side hurts like hell. All night. Could not find a pain free position. Did not sleep one moment all night. I started this blog at 4:30 this morning. There was no sense in staying in bed any longer.

No bruising. Which surprises me. I am on blood thinners.

Fortunately, I see my doctor at 8:30 this morning to do blood work and get a flu shot. I will have her check me out. I believe I am ok.

Volkswagen recently owned up to cheating on their diesal vehicles big time. Bad Volkswagen! However, I must compliment Volkswagen in one regard. I have a 2010 Volkswagen Beetle convertible. Never checked out the spare tire till yesterday. A whole tire! A regular sized one!

This morning’s Key West Citizen in its History section states that on this day in 1994 B.O.’s Wagon was physically moved from Duval to its present location on the corner of Caroline and Williams Streets. Locally owned all these years. A great attraction. Does a big time business. A touch of old Key West.

The only body comfort for me yesterday was sitting straight up in my desk chair. My left arm and fingers hurt when hitting the  computer keys.

I spent the afternoon writing this week’s KONK Life column. Boudicca, Warrior Queen. A 60 AD story. Interesting. A woman leading the armies, as in Joan of Arc. Brutality big. Similar/comparable to or more than that being perpetrated in recent years by al Qaeda and ISIS. Also, gender discrimination.

I opted to write about Boudicca because of the similarity to today’s war brutality and the gender discrimination issue.

An observation. We seem to be having more crime than usual in the lower keys this year. Three recent murders come to mind.

Saturday night, a deputy sheriff was shot in the chest by a robbery suspect. A bullet proof vest saved his life.

The robbery suspect got away following a shoot out. He was discovered at a home on Von Phister sunday. He surrendered to the Key West police after a negotiation. The suspect had two bullet wounds from the shoot out the night before.

Larry Smith plays again! All over Key West. Monday nights at the Little Room Jazz Club. Music and people just like the Wine Galley. Larry is also playing monday through friday afternoons from 4 to 6 at Chicago.

Bocce standings came out yesterday. In spite of recent losses. we are tied for 3rd place with two other teams. All with records of 19-8. Larry Smith’s team is one of those tied with us for 3rd place. We play Larry’s team thursday evening. A blood match!

I am finishing this blog at 6:30. It takes roughly 1.5 to 2 hours each morning to get out.

Enjoy your day!

REPUBLICANS KICK THEMSELVES

I fear we may be seeing the disintegration of a great political party. The Republican Party. Though a Democrat, I respect and see the need for an opposition party. It keeps everything in balance.

The sub-committee hearing of Hillary Clinton yesterday was a disgrace. I could say Hillary blew them out. The more accurate observation is the Republicans blew it. Beat themselves. A scary thing is the Republicans think they were doing the right thing. They delude themselves. This group would have voted to burn Joan of Arc at the stake.

A few nuts on the Republican side. Gowdy the chairman, or whatever his name is, was nothing more than a side show. He gives the impression he is doing God’s work. Several commentators said what a great prosecutor he must have been in his other life. No way. He would have been a piece of cake for defense counsel.

Jim Jordan impressed me as the outstanding mental case. He is Chairman of Freedom Cause, the group that is screwing things up in the House of Representatives. He is the #1 obstacle person in Congress.

Let me share some additional thoughts by Mike Lofgren. I quoted him also yesterday. A retired 28 year Republican Congressional staff person. He said, “…..the Republican Party is becoming less and less like a traditional political party in a representative democracy and becoming more like an apocalyptic cult.” Also, “By sabotaging the reputation of an institution of government, the party that is programmatically against government would come out the relative winner.”

The Hillary hearing took 11 hours, including breaks. I watched all of it, except for 1 1/2 hours. The political junkie in me ate it up.

I called David in the afternoon. We had bocce last night. Told David I would not be there. I wanted to watch the hearing till it’s bloody end.

I have received the bocce results. We lost 2 games last night, won only 1. We are on a downslide the past three weeks. The number one spot is no longer possible. We may end up fighting to make the playoffs.

I forgot Fantasy Fest starts today. I thought it was next week. Lori reminded me as she was cutting my hair yesterday. Tonight, Goombay. With Don and friends. It has become a tradition. We will meet at 801, do Goombay and end up at Blue Heaven.

I will be on the radio at 12:10 on the KONK New Hour. 104.9. Guy deBoer will interview me about this week’s KONK column Lincoln The Man. Ten to fifteen minutes.

Enjoy your day!
