Tonight Syracuse basketball! The final game of the Sweet Sixteen. The result determines whether Syracuse proceeds to the Final Four.

Syracuse is a 3 point underdog via the Vegas line. Ohio State the projected winner.

An insult! The first time all season that Syracuse has been the underdog. So be it. We shall overcome.

I initially thought we would get blown out of the tournament early when we lost center Fab Melo. It did not occur. Came close. But Syracuse prevailed. The team has too much resiliency. I have gone from a doubter to a believer. Syracuse does know how to win. We are going to beat Ohio State tonight!

The game is at 7:05. I shall be watching the game at the Sports Page Bar. David is joining me. He is an Ohio State fan. A serious one. The comments between us during the game should be interesting.

The Internet show continues to be a success. Many post show comments yesterday from all over. The Key West Lou Legal hour has developed a significant following world wide.

Two topics appear to have touched people’s sensitivities.

The first was my opinion that either the next Pope, and if not, definitely his successor, would be latino or black. The reasoning behind my observation is simple.

In the first eighteen hundred years of the Church, Europe was the bastion of Catholicism. Most members  of the Catholic Church resided in Europe and were white. Then the United States was born. Added to the white population of the Church.

The past fifty years have evidenced a decline in white parishioners in Europe and the United States. At the same time, there has been a burgeoning growth of Catholicism in Africa, Central America and South America.

The membership of the Catholic Church is now 85 per cent latino and black.

A Pope from the latter group is inevitable. I doubt we shall ever see an Italian Pope again. Nor a Polish or German one.

The other topic generating interest involved my comments on gasoline and food prices. A long dissertation. Too long to be recited even shortly here. But it can simply be stated that corporate America is screwing us. The gas companies and food conglomerates are manipulating everything to their advantage and the detriment of the American consumer. My observation was not based on hysterical ranting, but rather interesting and generally unknown facts. I am considering a KONK Life column on the issue.

After the show, it was to Lisa’s. Needed a grandkid ingestion.

Robert and Ally kept insisting they wanted their golf clubs back. They were in my trunk. I asked why. I figured we could go to the golf course next week again. They explained they needed to practice and would be doing so in the back yard. A bad swing, an errant shot, and a broken window can be anticipated.

Spent the rest of the day lying by the pool. Doing nothing.

Stayed home last night. So did the girls. Donna cooked. linguine covered with a bolognese sauce. Delicious!

I can’t wait till 7 this evening. I  am anxious to watch the game!

Enjoy your day!

Syracuse won!

The most important yesterday occurrence!

Beat Wisconsin by a big one point. 64-63. The finest played basketball game I have ever seen. Both teams played exceptionally well. Syracuse once again knew how to win!

Next Ohio State. Saturday. David is a huge Ohio state fan. We agreed last night to watch the game together..

This is Friday. Friday means show time. The Key West Lou Legal Hour. Ten in the morning my time. World wide. http://www.konkbroadcasting.com/. Join me. Always interestinjg. Always exciting.

I have added one more item to this morning’s show. My prediction that the next Pope will be latino or black.

I started yesterday with a visit to Eye Eye Eye. Needed new glasses. Prescription and frames.Spent an hour. Picked out new frames and am having some old ones reused.

Then to Plantation Coffee for lunch. A cup of coffee and a bagel with cream cheese. Read the newspapers.

Refrigerator really empty. To Publix. Bought a lot.

It was close to the end of the afternoon. A short nap was in order.

Game time. 7:15. I was at John Lukas’ Big Ten Sports Bar. Packed. More Wisconsin than Syracuse fans. Made no difference. We made more noise!

Scott watched the game with me. John was too busy running around.

Wisconsin made 14 threes. It is impossible to beat a team that makes 14 threes. Syracuse did last night! We just had to make more twos.

A key to the victory was the Syracuse defense. In the last seven minutes of the game, Wisconsin did not make one three. Boeheim extended the zone defense further out. It screwed up Wisconsin’s three point  game.

Met a lovely at the Sports Bar. Never got her name. A gorgeous young lady. Moving about in a long colorful dress. She was from Scotland. Delightful accent.

She is in Key West for two weeks working at Bare Assets. The stripper/gentlemen’s club. Then she is off to Jamaica for two weeks. To strip, I asked. No, to vacation. Then back to Scotland. I told her I was considering doing France, Italy and Greece soon. She said visit me. I never did get her particulars, however.

After the game, I headed over to Don’s Place. My bocce team was there. They won 2 out of 3 games. Good! I had excused myself from the bocce match to watch the basketball game.

Stayed a while. Chatted with Don, David, Erica, Herschel and Lori.

Watch my show.

Enjoy your day!

Busy day yesterday!

Tired me out!

My morning started with a visit to the eye doctor. I have not see him nor had an eye check up in several years. It was time.

Other than a slight upgrade in prescription, everything fine. Hopefully later today, I will find the time to get the prescription filled and order new frames.

I was to babysit afterwards for about 4 hours. Went to Lisa’s. Could not sit immediately. My pupils were still dilated.

About an hour later, Robert, Ally and I hit the road. First to I HOP for lunch. It has become a favorite place for us.

Then to the golf course. The grandkids’ clubs were in the trunk of my car.

We went to the putting green. Not only was the golf course itself  busy, the putting green was packed. I was going to leave. Then I thought screw it. Robert and Ally are for real members of the golf club. Card carrying. They take lessons. They belonged as much as the adults.

I admonished them both to play quietly. We took over one putting hole.

Robert and Ally practice putted for about an hour. I stood nearby, observed and commented. A half hour into it, Robert started sinking his putts consistently. From about 5 feet out. I was amazed. So were some of the adults who were practice putting. I could see the surprise and envy register in their eyes. They were missing their putts with the same consistency as Robert was making his.

My wednesday group had been out playing. As we finished putting, Don, Larry, Tino and Tom came in. Hellos exchanged, including Robert and ally.

At a golf course, kids are really only interested in one thing. Riding on the carts. They were stoning me. Especially, Ally. She began to pout thinking she was not going to ride one.

I spoke with one of the pros and got permission to take Robert and Ally around the course. I had intended to only drive them around in a small circle and be done with it. I was told by the pro, no, take them where ever you want.

We did 4 holes. It was as exciting as a visit from Santa Claus for them.

I drove the grandkids to my home afterwards. Lisa met us. They went swimming.. I went to bed for a nap. I was tired.

I intended to go out last night. I was still tired. My friday show research was not yet complete. Today busy. Syracuse basketball and bocce. Ergo, I opted to stay home, work on the show, and get to bed early.

Tomorrow is my Internet show. Friday. Ten in the morning my time. World wide. http://www.konkbroadcasting.com/.

Additional topics to be touched upon include the establishment of legal begging zones in Key West, an Occupy Wall street protester carrying a sign on St. Patrick’s Day asking the good Saint to drive all the snakes out of Wall Street, and Chevron execs court banned from leaving Brazil after an oil spill.

Plus,  Femen protesters in the Ukraine upset over police handling of an 18 year old girl’s case who was raped, burned and left for dead who lost 2 arms, 1 leg with the burning over 50 per cent of her body, a proposed law in Kansas protecting/absolving doctors who are opposed to abortion and lie to the mother after testing where there is a major problem with the unborn fetus, sex and mosquito control, and more.

Please join me. The topics are riveting.

Syracuse plays Wisconsin at 4 today. The Vegas line favors Syracuse by 4 points. Going to be one terrific game!

John Lucas is a Wisconsin grad. I plan on watching the game with him at his Big Ten Sports Bar. Then I have to hustle over to the bocce courts. We play at 6:30.

Enjoy your day!

Continued working on friday’s Internet show yesterday morning. Three new topics added. One is why the next Pope may be Latino or Black. Statistics/numbers don’t lie. Another is the media’s improper labeling of Obama’s 13 year old daughter’s Mexican trip as a spring break. The third is some startling revelations about gasoline prices. Things you may not have been aware of.

It was Hogfish again for lunch. Second time this week. Place packed. Ran into TJ. Have known him over 20 years. First Key West person to invite me to a home party. He is now bartending at Antonia’s.

Then to Walgreen’s. More prescriptions. The line was too long and the prices too expensive. I don’t know how people can afford drugs. A rip off. Just like the price of gasoline.

Last night began at Don’s Place. Wanted to be sure I was in the basketball pool. Don does it different. The pool stasrts with the Sweet Sixteen. You pick your team out of a hat. The spread comes into play. Confusing. Just give me my money if I win.

Chatted a while with Don and David. Besides the pool, bocce dominated the conversation. The most important thing in our lives at the moment!

I dined alone at the bar at Hot Tin Roof.

Then home to bed.

This morning I have an eye exam. First one in 7 years. No question I will receive a new prescription.

Enjoy your day!

Good morning!

Another reminder. I have switched from Friend to Fan on Facebook. I want to be sure that you are receiving me via Facebook since the change. Please check out the new Key West Lou Facebook site. Access is via Key West Lou. Leave me a message or hit LIKE on Facebook so I know you are finding me.

I spent yesterday morning sitting outside in the shade of my home working on friday’s Internet show. The Key West Lou Legal Hour. Discovered some interesting items for discussion on the next show. Like the wacky Pennsylvania family that went totally bare ass in a school parking lot, a breast feeding on airplanes  case settled in favor of mother and baby, Santorum and Catholics, Italian lawyers striking for better pay, a disgusting and offensive bumper sticker, fruit flies being similar to humans when it comes to alcohol, Obama’s 13 year old daughter on spring break in Mexico, and Pope Benedict orders his own personal cologne.

It was work out time at 2 with trainer Courtney Aman. He is working hard on me. I am working hard on me. Is it doing any good? I don’t know.

When I arrived home after working out, Lisa and the grandkids were here. Robert and Ally were swimming like crazy. They love the water. Take after their father Corey who is a professional diver.

Instead of going out last evening, I telephoned Sloan and asked her to come over. I thought the new Facebook page needed work. We spent a couple of hours at it. Still not where I want it. But, we are getting there.

Enjoy your day!

Change. Always a problem for me. I do not adapt well.

Why the previous comment? I am moving from Friend to Fan on Facebook. If my Facebook page is a bit screwed up today, I apologize. I anticipate everything will be smooth by tomorrow night. That includes my abilities with the new Facebook page.

My first stop yesterday was the Plantation Coffee House. Read the Sunday papers. Enjoyed coffee and a bagel with cream cheese. The bagel and cream cheese outstanding!

Chatted briefly with a lovely lady seated nearby. She is from Puerto Rico. A boater. Came to Key West on her own sail boat. Her features bespoke the trip. Dry deeply tanned skin. Dirty brown unkept hair. A mysterious face.

I enjoyed her brief company.

Spent the afternoon watching basketball and golf. I was disappointed to see Jim Furyk lose. I had the pleasure of meeting Furyk and his family several years ago in upstate New York. A few miles from my home town Utica is an Indian casino. Turning Stone. Five golf courses. Furyk was visiting for a weekend with his family. A nice guy. A regular guy.

Sunday brunch last night with Don and Chris at the Yacht Club. Great people from the Syracuse area. Obviously Syracuse fans. We had a terrific time.

We headed over to the Chart Room after dinner. JJ bartending. Mark of Boston area fame at the bar. Mark had been out with Don and Chris St. Patty’s evening. Mark was still recovering.

I chatted with the couple seated to my left at the bar. Jeff and Mary from Chalflont, Pennsylvania. Jeff is with Merck in research. Mary is retired from Merck research. Happily, she states.

Jeff and Mary have been coming to Key West for 16 years. Two weeks each year. They love Key West! I told them like the rest of us who traveled a similar path, they will ultimately buy here.

I treated the two of them as people sometimes treat me at a cocktail party. People always have questions to ask an attorney.

My prescription purchases have me confused.

An example is Lipitor. 20 mg a day. One tablet. My insurance puts me on the generic. I don’t care. I do care however about cost.

I am paying $41 for a 30 day supply of the generic. Walgreen’s gives me a receipt that says my insurance company is saving me around $151. I researched the generic on the Internet. It costs $15 for a 30 day supply.

Sounds like a screw job here some where. I asked my new found Merck friends if they could explain the situation to me. They tried, but really could not.

I am going to dig into this further.

After my Merck friends left, another couple sat down. Just as I was leaving. The lady was a knockout! A tall slender blonde. Forty at best. A charming smile.

We talked briefly. Asked where she was from. Arkansas, she replied. Bill Clinton country, I responded. She immediately developed a nasty look. She did not like Clinton.

I find it amazing. Most people I meet from Arkansas don’t like Clinton. I do not understand. Setting his sexual miscues aside, I consider him one of the greats.

Enjoy your day!

My yesterday was dominated by March Madness. St. Patrick’s Day never came into play.

It was Syracuse and Kansas State at noon. My thinking was Syracuse was going to lose. Without center Fab Melo, Syracuse was in trouble.

Not yesterday.

Syracuse trounced Kansas State 75-59.

It was a strange ball game. The lead changed hands a couple of times in the first half. Syracuse was up 13 points at one time. Syracuse was ahead by only one point at half.

Then came the second half. A totally different game. Syracuse dominated!

Kansas State played without its star center also. Jamar Samuels was declared ineligible just before the game for some reason. Kansas’ substitute center played extremely well in the first half. Seven feet tall. He was killing us. Fortunately, he lost it in the second half.

So it is on to the Sweet Sixteen. Next week Wisconsin.

I had planned to go to Finnegan’s around dinner time to party a bit. However, I wanted to see next week’s opposition. Wisconsin and Vanderbilt were playing at six. I stayed home to watch the game.

It was a tight one. Wisconsin generally had a small lead throughout. Either team could have won. Wisconsin did 60-57.

It will be a good game next week!

I have been despondent regarding Syracuse’s chances since Melo was declared ineligible. I still am. Wisconsin could easily beat Syracuse. For Syracuse to win, they will have to play as they did yesterday in the second half. Otherwise, good bye tournament.

In between games, Lisa came over with the grandkids. Robert and Ally wanted to swim in the pool.

Today is Sunday. I have to get out. Spent the whole day inside yesterday.

Enjoy your Sunday!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

It’s 9:30 in the morning. I just woke up/got up. Never am I in bed this late. Wow!

Yesterday’s Internet show a hit. Amazing how people have taken to it. Would you believe…..I have viewers now in Thailand and Israel, also.

The topic creating the most comment/controversy yesterday involved ladies’ rights, birth control, abortion, etc. The women are up in arms. A group in Austin, Texas this week formed Liberal Ladies For Lunch. In less than a week, it has spread to Dallas also.

The Ladies for Lunch want their husbands to stand up for them. Openly and publicly. If they do not, they are cutting off sex for one week. From April 28 to May 5. I call that fighting fire with fire!

This lets defecate upon the women problem is several weeks old. The overall comments to the issue during that time have been interesting. Many of the men commenting are of the mind that the women be damned. They are primarily older men. They seem to view their wives and women in general as subservient and chattels. One gent commented that the threat of his wife cutting him off meant nothing. She had not provided him with sex in years.

The Liberal Ladies of Austin may be correct. Time to dig in and fight.

I babysat for a couple of hours yesterday. Took Robert and Ally to I HOP for lunch. We all ate too much! We had a good time! We played tic tac toe while waiting fur lunch to be served. We talked about everything while eating.

I had to hurry home after dropping them off. Needed a water pill. Gained six pounds in 2 days. My ankles were swollen. Could not take the pill earlier. I had the show to do. I would have had to run to the bathroom at each break.

The doctor says take the pill and lie down. It works better if you lie down. I laid down. Lost 5 pounds in three hours.

Last night was the Chart Room first. Emily bartending. A terrific personality!

There was a gentleman from France, Sheila and Mark Olsen. We talked of many things. Corned beef was a big item. How to cook it. Every one knew something. It was interesting.

I met Mark Olsen. He is from the Boston area. Into start up medical supply companies. He knew of Con Med, a Utica med supply company that started over 30 years ago. We had a pleasant discussion. He is staying at the Pier House for another week. I hope to run into him again.

I was in the mood for wings. Only one place to go. Kelley’s! The best wings in Key West! Enjoyed the wings and watched Lehigh beat Duke. I was surprised Duke lost.

At noon today, Syracuse plays Kansas State. The Vegas line favors Syracuse by 5 points. I am not as confident. The game could be Syracuse’s ticket out of the tournament. We shall see.

I was planning on watching the game at John Lukas’ Big Ten Sports Bar. Changed my mind. Too many people will be out and about because of St. Patrick’s Day. Instead, I am going to watch the game from the comfort of my air conditioned bedroom. Don and Chris will be watching at the outside bar at the Casa Marina.

Maybe…..just maybe…..I may go out later to Finnegan’s. A Key West Irish pub. The street is closed off. Green beer and corned beef and cabbage served all day and night. I crave corned beef and cabbage one day a year. This is the day!

I know Don, Chris and Emily will be out and about later today. Most likely at Finnegan’s.

You will recall I missed bocce thursday night. I was exhausted and went to bed. I did not miss much. My team was losing 10-8 in the first game when the deluge came. Rain! Bocce was done for the night. All games will have to be rescheduled.

Donna just chastised me. She had a jewelry show thursday night. I did not go. Even worse,I did not mention it. I mention it now. After the fact. As it turns out, Donna’s show needed no boost from me. She sold many items.

Even when Donna is not in Key West, her jewelry continues to be shown. At the Stone Soup Gallery at 802 White Street. Take a walk and make a visit. Donna’s jewelry is fantastic! Different!

I am done. Sorry the blog is so long this morning. There was much to share.

May Syracuse win!

Enjoy your St. Patrick’s Day!

Show time this morning!

The Key West Lou Legal Hour.

Ten my time. World wide. http://www.konkbroadcasting.com/.

Join me for an hour of interesting and eye opening topics. I will be leading off the show with some of Maureen Dowd’s thoughts regarding the female onslaught by certain males of our society.

Yesterday was busy. Very busy. Tired me out before the day was over.

My day started with a haircut. With Lori, of course. She told me Lisa was coming in with the grandkids later for their haircuts. I was sorry I could not wait.

I had a meeting scheduled immediately following the haircut. When business concluded, I went outside to get in my car. It was raining! Pouring! I went back inside and waited till the rain subsided. It stopped after about10 minutes.

My car was parked in a lot about 100 feet from the building. The sun was shining. I starrted walking to my car. About half way there, the skies opened again. The rain came down heavy. Just like that. I got soaking wet!

Later I hit Publix for a few things. Then Walgreen’s.

Three o’clock was coming. Syracuse basketball time. I headed over to the Sports Page Bar.

Don and Chris came rushing in just before the game started. Sweating and huffing and puffing. Their plane from Puerto Rico arrived on time. However, they had trouble getting a taxi from the Casa Marina. Whatever, I was glad to see them.

The game. Heart attack time. The way it has been for the last several games. Syracuse behind, then ties it up, and in the final few minutes draws away for a victory. Tough on mind and soul! Syracuse won by 6-8 points over  the # 16 seed. Without Fab Melo. As I understand it, he is gone for the whole tournament.

Tomorrow another game. I don’t even know who at this point.

I was exhausted after the game. Felt like I had several weeks ago. A return of my problem? The game? A combination of both? I don’t know and did not know. All I knew was I was tired! My ass was dragging!

I telephoned Don. Told him I would not nbe appearing for bocce later in the evening. Too tired.

Stayed in. Had some great chicken. Donna had cooked one and left it standing.

After my sandwich, I tried to write a bit. Succeeded.

I have to write my KONK Life column one week in advance of publication. Next week’s column was writ. Chinese Women Rebel.

Chinese ladies have started a movement. Occupy Men’s Toilets. For real. A take off on Occupy Wall Street. Apparently, there are not enough women’s public toilets. The women are demonstrating for more. They chant as they march…..We want to pee! An interesting story. Watch for it next week.

I feel great this morning! I was worried I would wake up tired. That is how it was a few weeks ago.

After the show, I have to pick up Robert and Ally. I am baby sitting. They have no school today. We will do lunch together. They will pick. Probably I Hop. Their and mine most recent favorite place.

Enjoy your day!

A long day of writing yesterday. Done from the shade of the tiki hut. Just enough breeze. A taste of salt in the air.

Speaking of writing, I have added two recent KONK columns to Key West Lou Law on Amazon Kindle. Pythons Are A Coming and Kissing.

Lunch was obviously at home. A good one. Donna had made a meat loaf for her and Terri a couple of nights ago. I made a sandwich of the left overs. Comfort food.

My evening started at Aqua. Bobby Nesbitt time. I had plans to meet Bill and June Hudson there, also.

Bill and June have been Key West friends for many years. Occasionally, we have dinner together. Last night was time once again.

Aqua had the usual crowd of locals watching. Donna and Terri were there also, seated with Lynda. Terri sang several songs. A treat!

I understand Bobby and his partner Mike Mulligan are moving from Old town to Key Haven. New neighbors to be. Welcome!

Dinner with Bill and June was at the Yacht club. Discussion was lively. Bill is a black hearted Republican from Delaware. We also got into the life of a separated/divorced man in Key West. Mine. I may write a book on the experience also. It is not as you may think.

I stopped at Don’s Place before going home. Don at the bar. John, also. Todd bartending.

Syracuse basketball and bocce dominated the conversation. Don believes the loss of the Syracuse center will toughen the team and they will go all the way. No way, I said. Syracuse will be out in the second or third round. Time will tell.

As I was leaving, I noticed Puff was working Don’s liquor store. We exchanged waves and smiles.

Syracuse basketball at 3 this afternoon. We will win this one. Syracuse is playing a non entity # 16 seed.

I will be watching the game at the Sports Page Bar. Don and Chris are flying in from Puerto Rico. If their planes are on time, they will be joining me.

Then, bocce in the evening.

Enjoy your day!
