No blog yesterday. Sorry. It was a tough day medically.

Began with a morning visit with Dr. Blass re need for an endoscopy. It has been scheduled for June 28.

In the afternoon, a monitor visit with the heart doctor’s office. I was fitted for one. Must wear it two weeks.

In the meantime, lunch at Harpoon Harry’s. Got into a long discussion with one of the waitresses and a fellow customer about bocce. The waitress plays 3 times a week. In the wednesday night league and with friends for fun on saturday and sunday.

The customer never played. I am sure he was sorry after hearing all the fun we had.

I was tired, but decided to go out for dinner. Wearing my new monitor friend.

Opted for Grady’s. Had a craving for their wings. Glad I went. Had a great evening!

Ran into Russell, an old friend from Don’s Place. A good 10 years since I last saw him.

Also met a terrific couple. Vanessa and Ty. As does Russell, both live near Grady’s.

I enjoyed six wings. Didn’t need more.

Enjoyed big time moreover talking with Ty and Russell. Ty a conservative, Russell a liberal. One a Trumper, the other a Biden supporter.

I was seated between them. Got into it a little bit. The two were too interesting to intrude upon.

Ty works with Island Door and Windows. He and I chatted a bit about the poor windows at the Golf Course complex.

Vanessa an interesting woman. She works for the State Attorney as a Victim’s Advocate. She has been with the State Attorney’s office 24 years.

Dev Shah is a 14 year old boy from Largo, Florida. He won a distinction that he will carry with him the rest of his life. He won the Annual National Spelling Bee Contest.

He correctly spelled “psammophile.” 

He deserved to win!

Psammophile is an organism that thrives in sandy soils.

If you think the word appears difficult, he had to first spell probouleutic, zwitterion and schistorrhachis to get at it.

His victory brought with it a $50,000 cash award.

About time!

My fear was it would take meetings ad infinitum, with continued racing, while trying to figure out what went wrong. Which would have, as a practical matter, meant more horses would die.

Racing operations will be suspended effective June 7.

It happened again. The monthly jobs report is higher than anticipated. Much higher.

Employers added 339,000 jobs in May. Only 190,000 had been forecast.

The great debt ceiling drama is over. The debt ceiling raised.

Both Presidnet Biden and Speaker McCarthy describe the agreement as a “reasonable and hard fought compromise.”

The New York Times added: “While Donald Trump may have once written a book titled ‘The Art of the Deal,’ Joe Biden is the one who actually knows how to get a deal over the goal line.”

What follows sounds like something DeSantis would have passed: On this day in 1904, the Key West Ministerial Association, because of lax views on the island regarding marriage, passed the following resolution: “No person is to be married who is known to have a divorced husband or wife still living, unless that person be the innocent party in a case of a decree granted for the cause of adultery.”

First hurricane of the season named Arlene. A tropical storm. Winds 40 mph. Perhaps some rain saturday and sunday. Arlene expected to be yesterday’s news come sunday by which time it will have dissipated. 

A nothing.

Al Pacino is about to be a father again at 83. His girl friend Noor Alf is 29 and 8 months pregnant.

Pacino thrilled!

Doesn’t turn me on. I will admit that at 87 I often think of getting to hold and play with a young one as a great grandfather. Enough for me.

The House passed the bill to raise the debt ceiling 314-117. The breakdown 149 Republican votes and 165 Democrat.

A bipartisan result. A negotiated compromise. Both sides did what had to be done.

McCarthy surprised me. He performed like a statesman. At the same time, keeping his job.

A Republican or Democrat victory? Close. I give Biden the edge. He gave away little to achieve the required result.

Republicans and Democrats who cried their side gave away too much were primarily two bit politicians who have yet to learn what governing involves.

Two Republican Presidential candidates will announce next week. Mike Pence and Chris Christie. Both considered having no chance.

I agree re Pence. Will not waste time discussing him.

I cannot understand why Christie is not given consideration this time around. Without question, he will take Trump on. Face to face, nose to nose, belly to belly. He has the balls to fight the fight. Something other Republican candidates lack. Respectfully, the ladies the fortitude. 

Christie will antagonize the hell out of Trump. Going to be interesting to see how Trump takes it.

DeSantis and the Florida legislature can deal with abortion, gays, book banning, guns and everything else, except for one problem. Human sex trafficking. Especially involving children. DeSantis and his team are doing a lousy job so far.

A Miami Herald editorial exposed Florida’s lack of toughness re human trafficking. Again, especially as concerns children.

The editorial quotes Republican State Representative Taylor Yarkosky re the child aspect: “If we can’t protect them from human trafficking, then I would ask this question of everyone in Tallahassee: What the hell are we doing then?”

One big shark!

In 1912, Capt. Charles Thompson, while fishing near Seven Mile Bridge, harpooned a whale shark after an 8 hour struggle. He got the shark to a sand bar where it took 5 days to die. Then towed the shark to Miami where he had it mounted.

The shark was 38 feet long and weighed 26,594 pounds.

The Tulsa Race Massacre began the evening of May 31, 1921. Thousands of white citizens descended on the predominantly Black Greenwood District, burned homes and businesses, and killed hundreds of people. The tragedy lasted two days. Stands as one of the worst incidents of racial violence in U.S. history.

The “cause” lacked validity. In due course, determined not to be true. The alleged cause was a 19 year old black boy was getting on an elevator operated by a 17 year old white girl. He stubbed his toe and was falling. He reached out and grabbed the white girl’s arm. She screamed.

The scream turned into a rape attempt/a rape. The “attack” spread rapidly.

The rape incident was not true. The girl supported its invalidity. The boy was never formally charged. Too late, however. The damage was done.

Twelve horses have died at Churchill Downs the past five weeks. 

Horse racing regulatory officials held an emergency summit yesterday in Lexington re the problem. FINALLY.

Seven of the horses suffered injuries between April 27 and the May 6 Kentucky Derby. The last two deaths occurred over the Memorial Day weekend.

To fully appreciate the effect of COVID, consider the number who died. Approximately 1.1 million Americans. Almost as many Americans who died in all our wars beginning with the Revolutionary War.

I have not had to name a new born baby in over 60 years. Came across a list of most popular baby names in 2022. Surprising! Most popular male, Liam. Female, Olivia.

Two well known and respected Americans celebrate birthdays today. Clint Eastwood is 93, Joe Namath 80. Their performances memorable.

Atlantic Shores closed 16 years ago. It was today or tomorrow 2007. In spite of an official closing date, it ran through the next sunday.

No one wanted to let it go.

The closing a shame. Atlantic Shores was a crazy fun place where people could get naked around the pool by day. Clothing optional. More naked than clothed. Women generally topless at the least. Many bare assed. Men hesitant to show it all. Few went naked. I was one who was reluctant to shred by shorts or bathing suit. What can I say!

I was a steady customer. Almost every day beginning at lunch time. The voyeur in me would not be denied. The women were magnificent!

Even the food was good. Great grouper sandwiches.

The mix local and tourist, straight and gay.

I made a ton of friends. Some friends to this day.

There has never been a similar place in Key West since Atlantic Shores closed. An institution disappeared never to return.

I found comparable in Greece. On Santorini. Though nudity was common place, there were two beaches that one might say specialized in the atmosphere. Ninety five percent of the people bare ass by day at the beach itself.. Five o’clock was kick off time. Two huge restaurant bars in the rear. Both similar. Half moon in design. Beginning at 5, they were dancing on the bars!

We never danced on the bars at Atlantic Shores.

Casa Marina is closed for renovations. A complete makeover.

The grande dame of Key West opened in 1920. It was commissioned by railroad tycoon Henry Flagler.

The renovation is expected to take 6 months.

This is the third such renovation in the 30 yeas I have experienced Key West. One other was a planned for renovation. The other the result of extensive hurricane damage. I forget the name of the hurricane. Did a number on the hotel. First floor totally flooded. Tall palm trees on the beach blown away. All replaced. I watched some of it. Impressive. Palm trees full grown were lifted by crane in the front parking lot, lifted over the building, and placed in ready made holes lining the beach.

Gay Floridians are leaving in droves. Reflective of the situation is many Pride groups are canceling month long celebrations as multiple anti-LGBTQ bills continue hitting the State legislature. The LGBTQ community is fearful of repercussions.

As I have written a few times, Key West has fewer gay residents. I believe economics has more to do with it than DeSantis does.

My Catholic upbringing compels me to share this story.

I was led to believe a non decomposed body was a sign of sainthood.

Sister Wilhelmina, Gower, Missouri, was buried in 2019 without embalming. She was exhumed last month. Her body and attire intact. Extremely little decomposition.

Sister Wilhelmina was a nun in the Order of the Benedictines of Mary, Queen of Apostles.

Catholic Church rules require 5 years to pass before sainthood can be entertained.

On this day in 1431, Joan of Arc was burned at the stake for heresy.

An example of a screwed up Catholic Church 1,000 years ago. The Catholic Church still screwed up, though fortunately not burning people at the stake any longer.

Clarence Thomas is a black man who wanted to be white. He achieved his goal in every respect possible.

His wife is white. He became a Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. His close friends are successful white men. He has become rich directly and indirectly. He sits in a position of power and authority where he can bestow favors on friends and persons who have been beneficial to him. His decisions are not those of a person seeking to address the plight of blacks or the poor. Rather those supportive of an affluent white America.

Except for changing his body color, the man has achieved his goal in every respect. So much so he is a detriment and danger to the people of the United States.

One other thing. He lied his way up the first rung of the ladder. I have always believed he lied at his Senate confirmation hearing before the Judiciary Committee in 1991 re Anita Hill. I thought it as I watched the proceedings on TV then and have not deviated in that belief since. I have previously written to that effect.

His decisions for 32 years have been increasingly conservative. To the extreme. The most recent his concurring decision in Sackett v. EPA decided thursday by the Supreme Court. The decision placed new limits on the Clean Water Act. Sackett will do serious harm to the government’s ability to quell water pollution.

Thomas’s concurring decision goes miles further in suggesting how Sacket forms the basis for deregulating the government and stripping many protections and benefits from the American people.

Ian Millhiser is a Supreme Court analyst and columnist. He wrote in VOX a detailed column about Thomas’ concurring opinion and the dangers carried within it. The article: Clarence Thomas’s Newest Opinion Would Literally Bring Back Child Labor. Published 5/26/23. The article’s opening statement: “Some Supreme Court Justices just want to watch the world burn.” I recommend its reading.

Thomas’ concurring opinion clearly indicates his thought power on severely limiting Congress’ power to legislate. The result if Thomas’ thoughts become law would be to throw out several volumes of the U.S. Code. Most protective measures.

Gorsuch came out of the shadows and joined in Thomas’ perverted thinking by joining in the Thomas opinion.

Thomas’ opinion lays the groundwork for the Court, if it is so inclined, to do future harm. Drastic harm. Like declaring the ban on child labor unconstitutional. Also, outlawing the minimum wage law, federal laws protecting the right to unionize, bans on workplace discrimination, and nearly all laws re workplace regulations.

Even more. Like rules requiring health insurance to cover people with preexisting conditions and the banning of white-only lunch counters.

Thomas concurring opinion in effect lays the ground work for how to sabotage the U.S. government.

The Thomas opinion is an attack on what he calls “New Deal era conceptions of bogus commerce powers.” He relies on precedent. The case of Hammer v. Dagenhart decided in 1918. An infamous and long ago overruled decision. 

Millhiser writes the Thomas opinion “reflects little regard for the people of the U.S.” His opinion “would wipe away many of the foundations of our modern day society and scoff at the consequences.”

My bottom line opinion is it is time for Thomas to go! He must be removed from the Supreme Court. Not an easy task. Nevertheless, definitely required. He is a constant danger to established law which is considered the American way of life and which this nation is now fighting to retain.

Enjoy Memorial Day! Recall what men and women died for to protect American values. The very values many today seek to strip us of. Do not say could not happen. Keep in mind Roe v. Wade.

I’m alive. It was the computer.

Whenever I miss a day or two, there is a great concern I am ill. Correct most times. T’was not the case the past few days. The computer was down. I could not fix it. Sloan was in Costa Rica. She returned. It is now operating.

I am not as inept as it may sound. I can figure out simple problems. I did in this case, but screwed up fixing it.

I changed the batteries in the keyboard. Such was the problem, though I was not aware of it at the time. The first thing Sloan checked were the batteries. I told her not the problem. They were new. I put them in thinking it was the problem. The batteries turned out to be the immediate problem, however. I put them in backwards.

That’s why I pay Sloan the big dollars!

I am going to ramble today as I catch up.

Ally graduated friday night. My youngest grandchild is now a woman. She will be 18 in a couple of weeks. August will find her at Florida State. A new world is opening to her.

Theos had the Jack Baron framed in Greece. Sent me a photo. Looks great! A frame adds to a painting. This is a new frame. Adds a bit extra to Jack’s original. The painting is going to sit in Theo’s home in Greece.

Enjoyed breakfast friday morning at Harpoon Harry’s. The crowd bigger because of the holiday weekend. However, not overly. Key West has returned to normal. The country came to Key West during COVID and even last year. The “season” disappeared. It was season all year long. 

We are now back to normal. The season definitely over. Fewer people even for Memorial Day Weekend. I like it. I am a 10 minute drive from anywhere rather than 20-30 minutes.

I mentioned it to Lori thursday when I got my haircut. Mentioned she probably did not like it because her volume was obviously off. She said, no way! I need time to take it easy, also. In  addition, her drive in from her home in Summerland Key and getting around Key West so much easier. She’s a happy camper!

My weight during the past year has dropped 18 pounds. Not because of illness or exercise. I once more have abandoned the stationery bicycle. I am eating less. And because I am aware it is helping my weight go down, I am eating less of the less.

I bought some new sport shirts last year. Now too big. I need to order another batch one size down. Not that many, however. I still have some of the ones I outgrew.

Too much happiness coming out of the Republican House in Washington. McCarthy is happy and gloating. Like he made whatever had to be done get done. The man of the moment!

An agreement in principle. Will it be accepted? Between Biden a sincere man and McCarthy a conniver and manipulator.

I will not believe there is a deal till it is signed, sealed and delivered. I trust not the MAGA Republicans. McCarthy has no control over the House. I assume Biden has some way to get the problem resolved if the Republicans back off. He is too savvy not to.

Trump is corrupt. Also un-American. He mentioned this week that when reelected, he was going to pardon all those convicted for alleged January 6 violations. Not to be outdone, DeSantis announced the next day he was so inclined also. DeSantis went a step further yesterday. He said he would also pardon Trump.

Two “sick” guys!

We are in the midst of the Memorial Day Weekend. Neither understands nor appreciates what the day symbolizes. Why we celebrate it. Birds of a feather.

Appears Trump may be headed for serious bad days re the classified documents.

I have mentioned at least two times in the past my concern that Trump may have retained the documents because he had or was trying to sell or benefit in some fashion by their contents. His track record re honesty speaks for itself. Curious to see if I am correct.

Henry Kissinger was 100 years old yesterday. God bless the man!

One of America’s most distinguished diplomats. Especially during the 1960’s and 1970’s. His opinion is still sought and valued today.

Musk is doing well with Twitter. Destroying Twitter.. You did well with Twitter, also. The show/your performance contributed vastly to making America further aware you are not the man for the job!

Twenty minutes late! Great opening. If you can’t get your announcement to run timely, how can you run the government?

The whole purpose of a Presidential announcement is to get attention. DeSantis, you got it last night. Negative attention! The screw up was prime time news afterwards and this morning.

Three hundred thousand listeners is nothing to brag about.               

The servers crashed. So they say. Understandable. Musk’s people should have been aware of the possibility. The crash does not speak well for Twitter, Musk or DeSantis.

DeSantis is ruining Florida. He does not seem aware. Florida is going down the tubes. His popularity will reflect the same in his next gubernatorial race. It will not show in a Presidential race because he will not be the Republican candidate.

Price gouging by military contractors is skyrocketing. They are taking advantage of the need for planes, submarines and missiles because of the Ukraine and Taiwan problems.

The gouging is out of hand. The Department of Defense and Congress must become more aggressive in dealing with it. Especially Congress. Congress should get off their asses and do something. Like putting America first and their pocketbooks second.

God is good! What follows a perfect example.

A paralyzed man now walks because of a device that connects his brain and spinal cord. All the man has to do is think he is walking and he walks! That simple! Amazing!

Gert-Jan Oskam, now 40, was paralyzed 12 years ago. Legs totally paralyzed, arms partially. The spinal cord in his neck had been damaged in an accident.

He now walks with connective electrodes in his brain and spinal cord which makes his body walk when he thinks walking. 

Recall Amanda Gorman. The lovely black college student who delivered a poem at Biden’s inauguration. Her poem has been banned at a Miami-Dade elementary school library. Its reading limited to middle school.

The poem part of the book authored by Gorman titled “The Hill We Climb.” The objectionable words: “Somehow, we’ve weathered and witnessed / A nation that isn’t broken but simply unfinished.” The complainant one woman. A mother of 2 children in the school. Daily Salinas complained it suggested violence. She also thought Oprah Winfrey wrote the poem.

Salinas has ties to Proud Boys and Moms For Liberty. She is also an avid DeSantis supporter.

What bullshit! What a waste! Ban guns, not books. Especially not Amanda Gorman’s fine work.

When I was practicing law in Utica, I needed to do some deep historical research on an issue. Went to the local library and took out several books. Kept them for 3 months, 2 more than the permitted 1 month. I returned the books on a monday evening when the library was open. Crowded. I waited in line. Knew I had to pay a fine.

The librarian was a tiny distinguished elderly matron. Metal rimmed glasses sitting on the tip of her nose. When my turn came, she loudly berated me for being late. It was embarrassing. I quietly accepted my punishment, paid the fine and left.

Never returned again.

What the librarian did not know and I did not mention was the money I had raised for the library over the years. Big dollars. The library could not have remained open without the monies raised. She would not have had the job.

As I was walking out the door I could not help but laugh to myself. The whole situation was amusing. I deserved what I got. And yes, I did continue to raise money for the library and I’m sure the little old lady never knew.

Which brings me to a late book return to another library. The St. Helena Public Library in California. Ninety six years late.

The book was A history of the United States by Benson Lossing. Due to be returned February 21, 1927.

The fine? No fine. The library had ceased charging for overdue books in 2019. Had the nickel a day fine still been in effect, the charge would have been $1,756.

Hurricane season close, but not here yet. Nevertheless, a pre-season hurricane may hit South Carolina this weekend as a tropical storm.

There was a comment by a Miss Kitty in the Miami Herald yesterday: “God help me! Some women will have to dress in long skirts and aren’t allowed to work, just have babies that they can’t abort.”

Before I vent re an issue that is bugging me no end this morning, permit me to share a photo of good friends Don and Chris. Key West visitors 3 or 4 times a year for the past 15 years. The pic is of us enjoying dinner at La Te Da last week. Great people!

Now for the nitty gritty.

Last week, the NAACP issued a Florida travel advisory. The NAACP recommended people consider Florida’s policies on diversity and race under DeSantis when thinking of traveling to Florida.

Earlier, travel advisories had emanated regarding Latinos and LGBTQ members.

This week Rick Scott issued a travel advisory for “socialists,” one “openly hostile to socialists and their enablers.”

The comment anti-Biden. Scott said, “Any attempt to spread the oppression and poverty that socialism brings will be rebuffed by the people of Florida…..Travelers should be aware that attempts to spread socialism in north Florida will fail and be me t with laughter and mockery.”

Scott claims Biden is attempting to erase capitalism and the system that has brought prosperity to Florida and the United States.

Scott’s compatriot is Ron DeSantis. Scott’s statement does not fit when one considers DeSantis’ attack on Disney.

Then there is the “war” being waged on women by Republicans. No travel advisory required for that one. Bombs falling on women all over the U.S.

Note the male state legislators all over the U.S. promoting these wars. Most are elderly white haired. For whatever reason, bigots in their old age.

Latinos and blacks legitimately in Florida are welcome. It is their state also. Those seeking to immigrate in violation of existing laws are not welcome. Whites treated the same way. Rules are rules.

Blacks have been Florida residents for generations. I can only speak for the Key West area as my traveling for years throughout Florida has been limited. Key West does not have a black problem. Residents and visitors exist here. More visitors in recent years. I am not aware of anyone wanting neither their company nor business.

This socialist thing a crock of shit! Republicans use it as another way of describing Democrats. I am a liberal at heart. If it makes me a socialist, so be it.

I am a political animal. I initiate political conversation wherever I can. I want to know what others think. Most people in Key West that I chat with are not MAGA. They are anti-Trump. Whether resident or visitor, rarely do I encounter a Trump supporter.

Drag is an industry as well as a life style. The last 10 years have killed the Key West gay life. Dramatically reduced it. For economic reasons, many gays moved to Miami and Fort Lauderdale. Cheaper to live and better paying jobs. I have never seen a child at a drag show. This DeSantis inspired danger does not exist. Worry more about priests rather than those of the outright gay gender.

How much sicker must we become as a society before the corner is turned and we return to the normalcy of yesteryear? Do not sit idly by and merely observe if you do not agree with what is going on. Talk back, fight back, and vote Democratic in 2024. Otherwise you will be buried under a lifestyle not even contemplated 20 years ago.

A few days ago, it was advised the rain season in south Florida would begin May 15. It did. Rains a bit every day. A heavy shower or two. Then a return to sun and increasing humidity.

At the moment, it is pouring big time. I woke this morning to the band playing. Drums booming. Huge thunder.

Summer is our rainy season. Not bad. As stated, an intermittent shower or two each day.

What I enjoy about a heavy rain storm is it washes my car. I save bucks during the summer. My car is bright and shiny every day.

No lightening storms yet. Living on the ocean brings lightening storms unique unto themselves. Your bedroom may be dark at night. Shutters closed tight. However when the lightening strikes, it sneaks into your bedroom and lights it up like a thousand bulbs. Daytime at 3 in the morning.

Tavern ‘n Town is remodeling its kitchen. A commercial kitchen team doing the job.

An explosion yesterday morning. A kitchen gas explosion. Two workers involved. Both received serious upper torso and face burns. They were helicoptered to Miami.

Seems like yesterday. The place Big Pine.

On this day in 1953, hundreds gathered in Big Pine. The event electricity was turned on for the first time.

Gary Burghoff alive and kicking. Celebrating his 80th birthday today.

You will recall him for two special acting performances. One was as “Radar” in the M*A*S*H* TV series and film. The other as the originator of the role of Charlie Brown in the off Broadway musical “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown.”

Dinner last night at Grady’s.

Interesting discussion with the woman sitting next to me at the bar. Our discussion had nothing to do with Blacks, Latinos, LGBTQ, women, socialists, etc. Basketball the topic!

Pro ball was on TV. Got us into the basketball discussion. She was from Indiana. A basketball freak as I. Brought us around to the Final Four Championship game in New Orleans in 1987. She was there, I was there. Though we never met till last night.

Syracuse lost with 7 seconds to go 74-73. Keith Smart will go down in the annals of Indiana basketball for all time. Even I remember his name. Seven seconds to go. He a forward. Syracuse winning by 1 point. He had the ball about 15 feet out to the side. Falling backwards. Syracuse hands in front of him. He threw the ball up. As close to a Hail Mary shot in basketball as you can get. The ball went in!

I told my new found friend that to this day I hate Indiana and Keith Smart. Now, I even hated her. We both laughed.

Jimmy Buffett has been released from the hospital. Marching orders are he is to relax for a while. Plans following the rest and relax regimen include a fishing trip with old friends. Then some paddling and sailing. Finally back in shape doing what he likes best – performing.

Another shark bite victim.

Incident occurred friday night at 8 o’clock at a dock on Summerland Key. A 35 year old man was fishing off his dock. Caught what turned out to be a shark. Brought it in to the dock. As he was pulling it out of the water, it bit the fisherman.

He was helicoptered to a Miami hospital. The bite was non-life threatening. 

This is the second shark attack in the lower Keys in less than a week. Shark attacks are on the upswing in the Keys this past year.

The Keys Citizen is changing its publication days beginning June 6. Starting that day, the paper will be published tuesday, thursday and saturday. 

I sense no benefit to the reading public in the change. Nor any enlargement of the paper.

Speaker McCarthy’s “optimism” re the debt talks with Biden scare me. He is a man without true power. He lacks clout among those he represents. He “controls nothing.” I fear his MAGA House members will screw him, Biden and the country.

Bess Levin in a Vanity Fair article 5/22 commented on what a Trump second term would be like. The article titled: Donald Trump, In A Second Term, Wants To “Control…..Every Facet Of Life In America.”

Levin wrote: “If you thought the guy went full authoritarian in his first term, just wait for round two. His plans are pants-pissing terrifying.”

Carmelo Anthony has retired. The Syracuse University and professional basketball player announced his retirement from the NBA after 19 seasons.

One of the greats. He led Syracuse to an NCAA championship as a freshman.

He retires from NBA ball as the #9 ranked highest scorer in league history, having scored 28,289 points.  He averaged 22.5 points per game in his 19 seasons. His years in pro ball were spent primarily with Denver and the New York Knicks.

His coach at Syracuse was the now retired Jim Boeheim who tweeted a “welcome to retirement” message to his former star: “I am honored to have been part of your legendary career, and I can’t wait to see what’s next for you.”

The national debt is $31 trillion. The debt experienced an explosive rise while Trump was Presidnet. $7.8 trillion. Twenty five percent of the national debt. All done in his 4 years as President.

Biden no competition for Trump where the national debt is concerned.

DeSantis wins again! The NAACP issued a travel advisory for Florida. Says Florida “has become hostile to Black Americans.”

A new question for the week re DeSantis.: Who’s paying for all his private flights? For a guy with a reported net worth  of just over $300,000, the Florida governor travels in style.

His campaign finance reports, flight tracking data base and corporate records reveal 55 “wealthy, most Florida based contributors and donors” have financed DeSantis’ private air travel. His system simple. Some lobbyists and donors say they have “become accustomed to calls from the Governor’s political aides asking ‘for planes.'”

Tracey Vanderhulst is a 38 year old California math teacher who once was named Teacher of the Year. She was arrested thursday for unlawful sexual intercourse with a 16 year old male student. Police believe there may be more sexually abused students for whom she will  also be charged.

The final round of the PGA yesterday was played as a major tournament should. The sun was shining. No rain. The prowess of the players permitted. A good day for golf!

Brooks Koepka won. His third PGA victory and fifth major overall. All by the age of 34.

His purse $3.15 million.

There were two heroes. Not the usual one alone. The other was a teaching golf professional. Not the usual tournament player. His name Michael Block. A limited number of PGA club pros are allowed entry. Rarely do any exceed. Block did over the 4 days. He was the “hero” during the tournament. Fans cheered him along the way. He was somewhere around the top 10 constantly.

He finished the tournament in 15th place. His playing partner in the final round was Rory McIlroy. By finishing in the top 15, he gets to play in the PGA next year again.

Even more exciting, he got a hole in one yesterday on the 15th hole. The ball went in on the fly. Did not even hit the pin. The crowd went wild!

He even made some money. He earned $288,333. 

What a day for America’s newest hero!

Block is no kid. He is 46. His victory caused him to cry several times.

A quiet weekend for me. Never left the house. Watched golf, old movies and napped. Have to push myself to get out today.
