Change the clocks!

Confuses me every time I have to do it.

Fortunately, the computers and TVs self change. Nothing else does. I have never learned how to change the time on the micro. I just add or subtract an hour. So too with my car. My wrist watch has been broke for years. Cannot change the time. I will have to add one hour while we are on Daylight Saving Time.

My body needs time to adjust also. I know. I am like a little kid. I will be hungry one hour earlier each day for about a week. The sleeping also takes time to adjust.

Seventy six years old and still do not have it down!

Yesterday, I worked several hours in the morning and into the early afternoon with Sloan. She is assisting me with the books I am writing. Have to keep everything organized. She also helps with the many mundane things that have to be done with my writings and internet show.

I enjoyed a late lunch at Hogfish. Sat in the bar area. Watched basketball, read the papers and enjoyed a delicious meal. A po boy shrimp sandwich. Delicious! Many fried in batter shrimp covered with a pesto sauce and served on a large soft bun.

Spent the rest of the afternoon home watching TV. Great basketball and golf.

Dinner at Lisa’s. Intentionally planned for Saturday night. I was not going out. Wanted to stay in and watch Game Change on HBO. I am a political freak by nature and had read the book.

My grandchildren keep me happy. They are truly a joy. After dinner, Corey took them outside to play. Lisa and I had some quiet  father/daughter time while they were gone. Good for her and good for me.

I got home just before nine. Hopped In bed. Turned on the TV to HBO high def. What a big night I was going to have!

All of 15 minutes!

I fell asleep about 15 minutes into the movie. It is called old age. I used to say that anything I had to do had to be done by 11. Then as time progressed, it became 10. Now it is 9 many evenings!

Sunday! Key West weather is again magnificent. A good day just woke up.

Love Sunday’s TV news/politics talk shows. Enjoy browsing the New York Times. Tonight, early evening that is, I may go to Kate Miano’s Gardens. It has been quite a while since my last visit.

Enjoy your Sunday!

There is no joy in Mudville. Mighty Casey has struck out.

Syracuse lost to Cincinnati last night. I don’t even want to discuss it. It had to happen. Better this week than next. Syracuse should still be a # 1 seed in the big tournament.

It was a bad evening watching the game. It was a good morning doing my Internet show, The Key West Lou Legal Hour.

The post show comments primarily covered three topics.

My advice to women that they should beware. The men are going to take them back to the middle ages. I suggested if their husbands were one of the guilty, then they should stop sleeping with them, stop cooking, stop cleaning the house, and stop doing their clothes. Their men will soon get the message loud and clear.

The battle should be fought now before the ladies get trampled upon even more. The argument is not a religious one. It is a political one. The women are being sacrificed to obtain political advantage.

This one is funny, but true. We know what pantyhose are. Well men, mantyhose, aka guylons, are on the way. Started in Italy. Now all over Europe. The United States is next.

The final topic was that many Chinese women are going over the border to Hong Kong to deliver their children. There are a number of benefits to be obtained by so doing.

I watched the Syracuse game at the Sports Page Bar. It is also spring break time. The place was packed with college students. They are all so young!

I never did a spring break. Could not afford it.  When I returned home from college on holiday or break, I worked in a meat packing house from 6 in the evening to 6 in the morning. I was in the union. Made terrific money. Which I desperately needed. My children benefited from my meat packing days, however. They were spring breakers big time.

After the game, I stopped at the Chart Room. Emily and four tourists. Chatted briefly with Emily. I like this girl!

Emily told me Cheryl and Roger had been in. Cheryl related my screw up to Emily.

Yesterday morning, I invited Cheryl and Roger to dinner last night at the Yacht Club. Did so in yesterday’s blog. A half hour later I remembered the Syracuse game at 7. Love Cheryl and Roger, but Syracuse basketball is more important. I telephoned Cheryl and begged off. She laughed, was good about it.

Then to Don’s place. I was looking for some one to discuss the Syracuse disaster with. Good luck! No one to be found. Very few patrons at Don’s. Kurt bartending. Puff at the bar. They briefly mentioned  they had heard Syracuse lost. I had one drink and said my good nights.

Enjoy your Saturday!

Syracuse won again yesterday! Beat Connecticut 58-55 in a Big East game in Madison Square Garden. Syracuse now 31-1.

Tonight at 7 Syracuse plays Cincinnati. I will be watching at the Sports Page Bar.

Started my yesterday with a manicure. Tammy at Lee Nail’s. Tammy’s husband bought a new tree for their place of business. Don’t know what it is. But it’s a big one! I like it.

Then I fine tuned today’s Internet show. The Key West Lou Legal Hour. 10 am my time.
World wide. http://www.konkbroadcasting.com/.

Join me if you can. I would enjoy sharing my thoughts with you. One of the first topics to be discussed involves women. I believe they are getting beat up and should beware.

Bocce last night. Great fun. Should not have been. We lost 2 out of 3 games. The two lost could have been won. Especially the last game. That’s life! That’s bocce! We played a better team. No excuse. We have improved. We were compeitive.

Cheryl and Roger came to watch. They stood behind the bench. Good people. Good fans.

I have owed Cheryl and Roger a dinner for months. Perhaps a year. How about tonight? Seven at the Yacht Club. Let me know.

There was a full moon as I drove home after bocce. I drove along Smathers Beach. With the top down. The moon was big and bright. Reflecting brilliantly off the water. That is how I first noticed the moon. The water reflection.

Have to hustle. Must leave early for my show. Again, please join me.

Enjoy your day!

Very cool breeze coming in off the water yesterday. It prevented me from working outside. Instead I sat at the kitchen table pounding out tomorrow’s Internet show. The Key West Lou Legal Hour. Available world wide. Ten in the morning my time. www.konkbroadcasting.com.

We may be sane. The world is not. Ergo some interesting topics to be discussed. Like the money Rush Limbaugh makes insulting people, a Spanish town of 900 that seeks permission to grow marijuana for sale, an 81 year old lottery winner, an Afghan general who is the kingpin in the Afghan/Iran heroin trade, panty hose for men soon to hit the market known as mantyhose, and Dennis Kucinich’s loss.

Plus, rich Suffolk County declares a financial crisis, China calling for an expanded use of condoms, Chinese going over the border to Hong Kong for child birth, Chinese women leading a toilet revolution known as Occupy Men’s Toilets, Willie Sutton’s career, first colored TV newscast, Edward R. Murrow and Sen. Joseph McCarthy, and more.

How can you stay away? Join me for the fun and education of it. Like the gentleman who sells suits on TV, I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

I had a 4 o’clock visit with my heart doctor. He was running behind. I did not get out till after 6. Everything in order. He does not want to see me for 3 months.

Afterwards, I thought I’d stop at Don’s Place to see who was around. Glad I did. Chatted at length with Don, Herschel and Tom. The main topic of course was bocce. All 3 men are bocce team mates. Don told us we have a tough game tonight. Against the # 2 team from last season. We were the # 3 team. The difference between our teams is vast, however. We shall see what happens.

For whatever reason, I craved a prime rib last night. I have not had one in ages. Perhaps years.

Only three places to get good prime rib in Key West. The Commodore, Outback and Tavern ‘n Town.

The Commodore was located on the other end of the island from me. This is the season plus spring breaker time. I did not want to buck the traffic and hordes.

I went to Outback. Good luck! Jam packed! People outside with their little boxes waiting for them to beep. A 1/2 hour wait for a seat at the bar. Not for me.

Back to my car. I was off to Tavern ‘n Town. It is located in the Marriott Beachside Hotel. The corner of US 1 and the Boulevard. Right on my way home.

Packed also, but not as bad as Outback. Primarily tourists last night.

I sat at the bar. A beautiful marble bar. Said my hellos to Robert the bartender. Had the TV turned so I could watch basketball. And ordered a prime rib. Medium rare.

First time I have consumed a prime rib at Tavern ‘n Town. Absolutely delicious! Try it! It is everything you would expect of a fine piece of meat.

This morning Key West has returned to perfect weather. Warm. Will get warmer. Probably 80. Not a cloud in the sky. A perfect blue in every direction. A slight breeze. The water moving with the breeze.

Enjoy your day!

My head kept me in yesterday. All day. Two ugly cuts. Headache in the morning. Like a weight on  my head. Did not feel well. Was considering seeing my doctor.  Then I felt better. Still ok.

My problem is passed, except for the head cuts and bruises healing.

Sloan came over about 7 to work with me. We had arranged this meeting several days ago. I was in fine shape last night to work with her.

Then it was to bed to watch the Republican primary results. Basically a draw between the two leaders. Romney was lucky he won Ohio. A loss might have been disastrous for him. I have a feeling that the Republican primaries are going to be with us to the bitter end of the process.

I will be working all day on Friday’s Internet show. The Key West Lou Legal Hour. At 4, I will be off to visit my heart doctor. No problem. He is jsut checking my cholesterol.

Then out on the town!

I have not been out since Saturday night when David and I went carousing. Tonight I will start with the Chart Room and then go over to Aqua to hear Bobby Nesbitt sing. Thereafter, I know not what. Something to eat somewhere.

As you know, Terri sang Monday night. At Tennessee Williams in a show headed by Key West’s Randy Roberts. It was Randy, Terri and two male Broadway singers.

My girls told me yesterday when they got up that the show went over well. Was a sell out. Not a seat left. Terri received a standing ovation after one of her numbers.

After the show, the cast partied. My ladies came in at 4 in the morning. Slept to noon. Did whatever they had to do in the afternoon. And were back out last night. I don’t know how they do it. So much energy.

Enjoy your day!

My health consumed most of yesterday.

Saw my internist in the morning. Thyroid on the mend. Half way to where it should be. Doctor is going to recheck it in a month.

I fell two weeks ago. Cut my head near the left eye and broke my glasses. I fell again yesterday. It is becoming habit forming. This time I ended up with two 1 inch cuts on top of my head. A bit bloody.

The first time I fell, I missed a step going up. This time, a step going down. I am not concerned. But, I am beginning to wonder.

My back aches also from yesterday’s fall.

The fall changed my day. I missed Terri’s show last night at Tennessee Williams. The cuts were still oozing and looked worse than they actually were.

Obviously, I stayed home all day and night after the fall.

A couple of years ago, I read a book on Abraham Lincoln that I enjoyed very much. I told you about it at the time. It was a biography written by a John T. Morse in 1893. The book is entitled On Becoming Abraham Lincoln. I especially enjoyed the book because it was written by a person who was alive when Lincoln was President.

I opened the book yesterday and read a page here and there. I came upon one paragraph I did not recall from my first reading. It spelled out Lincoln’s financial difficulties in the 1830s.

Many are experiencing financial difficulties these days. Mortgage foreclosures are prevalent. Creditors are executing on debtors. People are hurting.

Lincoln went into the grocery business with a William F. Berry.  The business failed in 1833. Berry died. Lincoln got stuck with the business’ debts. Lincoln considered the debt large for one of his means. He had nothing. He was having a bad time economically. He referred to the debt as the National Debt. That is how the large the debt seemed to him

The amount owed all creditors was $1,100.

Lincoln was without work for a period of time following the demise of the grocery business. He was broke. Fortunately, some one gave him a shot at becoming a surveyor. Great tracts of land were being cut up at the time into lots. There was an abundance of surveying work.

Lincoln studied hard and quickly. Learned the surveying business. He was able to buy a horse and surveying instruments.

A creditor was owed $245 of the grocery business debt. The creditor executed upon Lincoln’s horse and surveying instruments. True, Lincoln was working. But not yet making enough nor had he accumulated enough money to pay the creditor. He needed the horse and surveying instruments to keep working.

Two friends came along  and payed the $245 debt.

It took Lincoln 16 years to pay off the $1,100. He paid off every penny in full.

To those who have the sheriff knocking at their doors, take heart. You never know from whence and who help may come. If no help does come, still take heart in the fact that Lincoln went through hard times also. And became President of the United States.

Enjoy your day!

I have been bragging about the weather for the longest time. The best ever in my experience for this time of the year.

Yesterday proved me a liar.

I was sitting on the deck chatting with Donna and Terri. It was 85 degrees. All of a sudden this huge chill came upon us and the wind started blowing big time. Like 30 miles per hour. Within minutes the temperature dropped 15 points to 70 degrees. Then the rain came. A monsoon.

We obviously were driven inside.

It was cold all night. The temperature got down to 63 degrees. The high today will be 68 degrees. Tomorrow every thing returns to normal.

The weather change is called a front. This one a cold front. Makes living in the keys exciting.

Last night was Sunday dinner with Lisa and the family. A happy time. Robert and Ally exciting. They talk like adults now and join in the conversation.

Stopped at Publix on the way home. Cupboard bare again.

Too cold to other wise go out last night. Stayed in. The bed covers kept me warm and the TV entertained.

I have a 10 o’clock doctor’s appointment this morning. To get my latest thyroid results. Should be better.  I feel better.

Lest I forget, Terri sings toninght. At Tennessee Williams Theatre. In Randy Roberts’ Entertainment 3 show.

If you are in the lower keys, go. You will love Terri! Guaranteed!

Enjoy your day!

Syracuse won! What a season!

Syracuse beat Louisville decisively. Their season was 30-1. Only one other team in the country has a similar record. Kentucky. Hopefully the two teams will get to play in the championship game of the Final Four. It is a long way to that point, however.

I was out late last night. I went every where.

David telephoned and said lets go out.

I met David at Don’s Place. We stayed a while. Then to La Te Da for dinner at the outside bar. Next a visit to the Chart Room. David had never been to the Chart Room.

We left the Chart Room and decided to continue the evening. It was the Wine Galley to enjoy Larry Smith. Then back to Don’s Place for a night cap.

A big evening! I feel it this morning.

I like David. Enjoyed his company.

I got into the Rush Limbaugh/Sandra Fluke situation a bit yesterday. Some misread what I wrote. Perhaps I was not clear.

My approval/disapproval was not with condoms being paid for. Though I do support the position that women be provided them free of charge. My point was that Limbaugh treated Fluke in a very inappropriate fashion. He shot the messenger with vile and uncivil bullets.

When a powerful man in American society treats a female college student as he did, something is definitely amiss in our world.

Enjoy your Sunday!

The weather yesterday was fantastic! Once again! Key West has never experienced a winter such as this one.

Yesterday it was 85 degrees. Abnormal for this time of the year. It is still winter!

I decided to take advantage of the sun. A mistake.

I put the top down on the convertible and drove around. No hat. No hair. Ran some errands. Then to Lisa’s. I was absolutely exhausted by the time I reached Lisa’s. Too much sun on my bald head.

I fell asleep on the couch. Drove home about 4 and went to bed immediately. Fell asleep quickly again. A deep sleep.

The telephone rang. It was Jenna. I was confused. She never calls me early in the morning. I asked her what time it was. 7:30. Why are you calling so early? Early what? It was 7:30 at night. Last night.

The moral of the story is don’t put the top down on the car unless you are wearing a hat.

Loved yesterday’s show! One problem however. Audio OK. Visual/picture, not.

Guy normally takes care of things. He is on a 300 mile sailboat race. Left it to Jenna and me to get things working. I know nothing of the operation. Jenna knew more, but not enough as it turned out. Sorry for the no picture.

I still received many comments following the show. Every one asked why no picture. However, all said it was like listening to the radio.

The hit topic was Rush Limbaugh’s abuse of a Georgetown University female student. Sandra Fluke. Sandra testified before a Congressional committee easrlier in the week in support of birth control. She believed it should be available free to women under Obama health care.

Limbaugh referred her as a “slut” and “prostitute.” His theory basically was that if  Sandra wanted her contraception pills paid for by another, she wanted to have her sex paid for. Any woman who wanted her sex paid for was a prostitute.

Terrible!

What bothered me the most was that few commentators and politicians were calling Limbaugh to task for his insulting vulgarity. So Louis gave it a shot! My comments were well received.

Turns out I reacted too soon to Limbaugh’s comments. By last night, the media and certain politicians were blasting Limbaugh for his statements.

I was and am also disturbed that the female portion of the population is being put upon. In many respects. Respect for women’s rights is taking a beating. Primarily from certain male members of society.

I warned that the female gender  was in danger of some day being burned at the stake as Joan of Arc and the innocents during the Salem witch hunts. Dramatic, I concede. But makes the point. Female rights are being attacked as never before.

This is another I don’t know day. One thing is certain. I will not be driving with the top down with out a hat. Today, I probably will not put the top down at all.

Enjoy your day!

The sun has not yet risen. But it is goinmg to be a good day. I can feel it in the air.

Show time this morning! The Key West Lou Legal Hour. Ten my time. World wide. On the Internet. www.konkbroadcasting.com.

Join me! Another great show!

The opening topic will involve Rush Limbaugh and his referring to a female college student who testified before a Congressional committee on behalf of contraception as a “slut” and “prostitute.” Where are the voices rising up in protest? Is this war on women to go unchallenged?

Bocce last night. First night of the new season. We won 2 out of 3. We should have won all three. The 1st and 3rd games were won 16-5. We were ahead in the 2nd game 14-5. We lost 16-14.

It was like being ahead in a basketball game by 20 points with 3 minutes to go. And losing!

We are a better team. Better than last season when we ended up in third place. We will do well.

Remember Zelda. I took her out for the first time Wednesday evening. I forgot to tell you in yesterday’s blog that Zelda had a gift for me. A bag of chocolate covered strawberries. I asked her why. She said for Leap Year. Today is February 29.

I was under the impression that men were to give gifts to the ladies. Zelda said no. On February 29 the reverse is correct. Women give gifts to men.

OK by me.

We enjoyed one each as desert following dinner. I have the rest in the refrigerator. I plan on giving them to Robert and Ally.

Terri sings Monday night at Tennessee Williams as part of the Randy Roberts show. The event is entitled That’s Entertainment 3. Other Broadway personages will also be appearing. Should be a great show! If you are in Key West, go

Enjoy your day! It is Friday. The weekend is around the corner.
