EXECUTIONS BY FIRING SQUAD

An important issue. Executions by firing squad. They are gaining in popularity. Several states have legalized the method. The Justice Department is encouraging federal prison officials to consider the method.

Capital punishment remains legal in 27 states. The problem with them is twofold. Botched executions and the adverse affect on executioners themselves.

Capital punishment has been declining for several decades. Just over 50 percent of Americans support it. Down from 80 percent in 1994.

A Texas legislator said in a 1977 hearing: “We’ve gone from stoning to crucifixion, to quartering, to burning people at the stake, to hanging.” He followed up with….Now, we return to execution by shooting.

Electrocutions are gruesome. Prison officials place masks on prisoners to spare witnesses from having to see their eyes pop out.

Wouldn’t it be simpler to simply eliminate executions entirely and rely solely on life in prison or for an extended time instead?

I doubt there will ever be a blanket solution to the problem.

Enjoy your day!
