JOHN WAYNE’S FIRST STARRING ROLE

When you’re not feeling well, you end up spending a lot of time in bed watching old movies on TV. At least, I do.

Yesterday it was John Wayne and his first starring role. He played a good guy cowboy, of course. Did the bad guys in.

The film a 1930 one. Must have been one of the earliest talkies. Titled “The Big Trail.”

I enjoy Wayne and the film. In a lesser role was Tyrone Power who in due course became a big time star also.

Timmy the Turtle was released back to the ocean recently by the Turtle Hospital. A huge crowd cheered Timmy back to his home stomping grounds. Timmy a huge turtle. One of the biggest I have seen. I watched the video of the release.

Timmy interestingly is a female with a male name. It was reported she will be able to bear more little ones.

Party balloons will soon be in shortage. Globally. The balloons are blown up with helium. The Iran War has spurned a helium shortage. Another thank you to the Donald. I doubt he or his people considered what effect the helium shortage would be. Major already in the U.S.

An example of the problem which has arisen is Dollar Tree’s 2nd quarter report for this year. Dollar Tree claims the helium shortage caused it to sustain a $15 million loss.

The biggest modern beer heist ever! Would you believe! On August 17 in Montclair, California, $25 million of Anheuser-Busch Pabst Blue Ribbon was stolen from a distribution center. Amounted to 40,000 pounds of the brew.

Anheuser-Busch pissed! Has become actively engaged in the investigation. Even offering a reward.

Sounds like a return to the bootlegging 1930s.

A Richmond, Virginia female doctor was awaken in the middle of the night as a bat tried to enter her mouth. Not a tasteful story. Big time scarry.

Consumer cost of pharmaceuticals will rise significantly in the near future. The cause will be nothing more than predatory pricing by drug producers.

I dislike reporting negatively about Key West businesses. However there are times it is required without question.

Two local restaurants have been closed down because of what amounts to dirty housekeeping. One is the Ocean Grill at 1075 Duval Street. The other Hurricane Hole at 5130 Overseas Highway. Ocean Grill had 9 violations. Hurricane Hole 14.

Hurry and clean up fellas. Both of the facilities are great places to eat.

Japan’s Great Kante Earthquake killed over 140,000 this day in 1923.

Germany began World War II this day in 1939 by invading Poland.

The wreck of the Titanic was found this day in 1985.

“PainByRomaine.” Refers to Caesar salads. The review by Olympic star goaltender Aerin Frankel of Team USA. The work was released in 2024.

Aerin is the “world expert” when it comes to Caesar salads. She has tried many everywhere in the world. Expensive and non-expensive restaurants. Her opinion respected.

Rosetta Stone claims it is the world’s best app for persons to download if they want to learn a foreign language “for real.”

Key West has been experiencing a significant amount of rain each day recently. We need it, as most of Southern Florida does.

Yellow fever was the “infection of the day” in the 1860s. On this day in 1862 in Key West, yellow fever killed 20 members of the 90th New York Regiment and another 27 men in the Marine Hospital.

Somehow cut the back of my right leg drying off after showering yesterday. Robert drove me to Dr. Norris who dressed the wound. Then Robert took me to Publix where I had a few items to pick up. He also showed me how to check out without a girl and on my own.

Tonight, The Grand. Hope I make it!

Tomorrow my dear friends Fran and Tom Dixon are arriving for a week from Buffalo. Can’t wait! I enjoy them both tremendously.

Spoke with them on the phone last night. Tom told me we are having dinner at the Ocean Key House Wednesday evening. I have not eaten there in several years.

Enjoy your day!
