WHO’S ON FIRST

Comedy at its best! Classic comedy. From yesterday. Guaranteed to keep you laughing.

The show titled Classics of Comedy 2. The place The Studios of Key West. January 9-11.

The best of of the old hits includes Abbott and Costello’s Who’s On First. One of the best. From Abbott and Costello’s 1950’s repertoire.

If you enjoy laughing, a good show to see.

Key West City Fathers are about as bright as the Congress of the United States. The City Commission is seriously considering expanding the sidewalks on Duval to permit outdoor dining

I thought the several month experiment with closing off certain portions of Duval was a disaster and waste. I did not hear many favorable comments re the experiment.

Some Duval parking places will be lost. City Commissioners do not seem to care when parking spaces are removed. Haven’t we lost enough already?

Duval itself is too narrow to begin with. It is going to be hell for other than foot traffic. Cars, trucks, motorcycles, mopeds, bicycles, etc. all vying for space. A guaranteed invitation to more accidents.

As far as I am concerned, the idea is as good as Trump’s was to kill General Soleimani.

The 1970’s for Key West were the roaring 20’s. Except for the method of getting high. Drugs replaced booze.

Several writers organized an informal social club. Named it Club Mandible. Twenty to thirty members. Wore special club shirts and had different club names. Like General Chaos and Private Parts. They generally “boogied.”

The Club spearheaded its members’ efforts “toward the unconscious.” Or, a rather a “punishing form of conscious.” The “punishing form of conscious” was a state easily realized due to the availability of drugs.

When the comedian John Belushi died of a drug overdose in 1982, one of the members remarked that “he didn’t seem all that crazy by Key West standards.”

Michelle Goldberg is a New York Times opinion columnist. Her comments re Trump killing General Soleimani in yesterday’s Times right on: “There are no more adults in the room. After three harrowing years, we’ve reached the point many of us feared from the moment Donald Trump was elected. His decision to kill Maj. Gen. Qassim Soleimani…..made…..with little discernible deliberation, has brought the United States to the brink of a devastating new conflict in the Middle East.”

Iraq has said…..U.S. remove your troops from our land. A day or 2 before, the U.S. announced 4,000 troops from the 82nd Airborne had been deployed. Yesterday, it was announced 2,000 Marines were en route on the USS Bataan.

Don’t look like the U.S. is going anywhere.

Trump says the economy is good. I think not. Have not for quite a while. The stock market alone is not an accurate indication of the economical health of a nation.

The market also has the capacity as history tells us to drop suddenly and disastrously.

Businesses are hurting.

The most recent example is Pier 1 Imports. It was announced  by Pier 1 that it is closing close to 450 stores. The number representing half its stores.

The rumor is Pier 1 is nearing a bankruptcy filing.

Its stock has dropped. In 2015, $300 a share. Around $5 today.

The last quarter of 2019 found sales decreased 11.4 percent from the same period the previous year. Pier 1 lost $59 million last year.

Nationally in 2019, there were 9,302 retail store closings. The closings 59 percent greater in 2019 that 2018.

As Trump tells us, the economy is good, the best ever.

Puerto Rico can’t seem to win.

In a 24 hour period, it was hit with 2 major earthquakes. A 5.8 magnitude one monday morning at 5:32 am. A stronger one this morning at 3:24 am. A magnitude 6.4. The second one knocked out the electrical system for the entire island.

There may be more earthquakes in the next few days. The experts had predicted the second one. Fortunately, no predictions re tsunamis.

Kevin Bacon 25 found Mark Latunko on the internet. They met Christmas eve at Latunko’s apartment.

Three days later, Bacon was found hanging naked in Latunko’s apartment. He was hanging by his ankles, his throat cut, and parts of his body missing.

Latunko has admitted to cutting off Bacon’s testicles after he was dead. He later ate them.

  1. Yes Lou fewer parking spacer on Duval will result in more dinners east of the Cow Key Bridge. A very smart Council. For the same reason I too did not go to Town on New Years eve. I will go to my newly found restaurant east of the Cow Key Bridge this week to dine.

  2. We know the truth about you putz, you have worn out your welcome in most Key West restaurants and have to eat elsewhere anyhow. Just as well, nobody like a Key West hater like you on the island in the first place.

    • Yes that is correct Denny’s moved to a free parking location, Denny. But I will meet you at the deli across the parking lot-it is free to all member’s of the “The One Human family” here in KW. Is that the truth!

  3. It is being reported the Pentagon gave a number of acceptable options for Trump to consider. They included, as a matter of practice with past Presidents, one over the top option to make the middling ones more palatable. That overkill option is the one he selected, to their dismay. When will the agencies learn Trump can’t be trusted with such temptation any more than he can be trusted with access to the button.

    • I am not sorry that Soleimani was blown to bits in an American drone strike. I hope he was able to catch a glimpse of the incoming Hellfire missile and say the Arabic equivalent of “oh sh*t” as it exploded. This man was directly responsible for the death or maiming of hundreds of Americans. Today you can visit sites in Iraq or Afghanistan where American armored vehicles were blown up and our troops killed by improvised explosive devices (IEDs). You can find pieces of those IEDs, and quickly determine that they originated in Iran. They were Soleimani’s doing.
There may be future political or military consequences for Trump’s decision. That’s to be expected following any US action in the Middle East. Soleimani won’t be part of it.

      • There are lots of people responsible for American deaths in places Americans don’t belong in the first place. There are also some Americans responsible for other American deaths and some of those are right here in America. But as Americans we like to think of ourselves as the type of people who don’t just go arpound murdering ANYBODY, just because we feel like it. Like it or not Soleimani was one of those.

Your post sounds exactly like a typical lunitic FOX News editorial

        • Ahhhh. You found me out. Yes, I write all the Fox editorials. In my next one I’m going to include some phrases from winners in history,. Like:
          Revenge is Sweet
Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing
All it takes for evil to flourish is for good men to do nothing
If you chose to live as a victim you will never become victorious
          Don’t tread on me
when nations are strong, they are not always just, and when they wish to be just, they are no longer strong.
These are quotes from those who stand against terrorism, and are winning. Quotes from the losers are more likely to be of the “oh, sh*t” variety.

          • Doesn’t really seems like you’re winning to me, “hateman.” We lost two Iraq wars and looks like two now in Afghanistan, as well. Saudi Terrorists are still everywhere and Syrian Oil is now Russian Oil. All the while you keep deluding yourself. And all the while YOU keep letting FOX news do your thinking for you!

            • Thanks, Jim. Good to know where you stand on national defense and America’s role in geopolitics. A warm kumbaya to you and Ron. Peace, love and rock & roll.

              • You are NOTHING more than a tool for those who own your mind, totally unable to think for yourself. Even when the FACTS show plainly we are in real trouble because of what we’ve done, you still want to take us blindly further down the path of destruction. Get out of the way you fool. Go spend your time stabbing jews.

  4. Hi Lou, we are from Chicago and used to come to KW a lot. Our last time there was the year before last and we ate on Duval three times, once at Bagatelle, another at Mango’s and breakfast at Banana Cafe. All three were bad experiences and always because of the car traffic. We were upstairs at Bagatelle and the car noise and commotion was more than distracting. We were at a outdoor corner table at Mango’s and the constant vehicle fumes ruined any chance of enjoying our meal. Banana cafe was the worse with a big truck pulling up right in front of the place to unload for a different restaurant, not only blocking any view but but smelling like oil.

This year we cane down and went to Miami Beach first and discovered Lincoln Road, All out door and no cars (or trucks) allowed. It’s probably as long a all of Duval street and FAR more pleasant. We canceled the rest of out trip (Key West) and stayed instead in Miami. Not sure we’ll ever go back to Key West. I can not imagine why anyone wouldn’t want Duval Street free of traffic like Lincoln Road is in Miami and so many other places in both large and small town in America and Europe.

    • Karen. Try the second floor back room at Bagatelle, at the bar. You may find less road noise there. Can’t really say I’ve experienced similar to what you describe but I agree there is too much activity and little room for outdoor dining on Duval itself.

      • I’m sure you are right, but we don’t come to Key West to eat indoors, we come to Key West to eat on the patio, or under an umbrella, or on the beach. There are lot’s of these opportunities, from Blue Heaven to Louie’s Back Yard, etc., etc. But we think Duval Street could and should offer some unique opportunities, especially since there doesn’t seem to be any REAL good reason to have cars and trucks endlessly up and down it when there are perfectly good parallel and cross street alternatives. Wise up Key West of you are going to loose that part of the golden egg to vacant trinket shops and endless juke joints. I think South Beach is getting this right.

Just Sayin, you should try Lincoln Road and Espanola Wayone time.

  5. “Trump says the economy is good. I think not. Have not for quite a while. The stock market alone is not an accurate indication of the economical health of a nation”

The market is doing well, I would expect that with the windfall Trump handed the Corps and the regulations he tossed away. Trump acts as if America was in a deep depression before he arrived in DC. In reality the true depression came after his inauguration and it’s not the economic kind.

  6. Drugs were readily available forever in Key West and everywhere else. Quit making them illegal and give them away for free. Take out the crime part, save a ton of money and keep us safe.
