SMOKING WAS ONCE CONSIDERED HEALTHY

Smoking was once considered healthy. Back in the 1940s, Camel cigarettes ran ads with doctors promoting the brand: “More doctors smoke Camels than any other brand.”

It was in 1813 that the United States acquired the nickname “Uncle Sam.” Samuel Wilson was a supplier of beef to the United States Army during the War of 1812. The barrels of beef were stamped “Uncle Sam.” Before long, the nickname “Uncle Sam,” was applied to and accepted by the American people and the American government.

It was on this day in 1840 that Germany began the Blitz by dropping bombs on London.

Lynda and Bob Frechette are two very special people. Their goodness reflected every day.

With time running out, Trump appeals again to the Supreme Court re his push to restrict mail voting.

“Alternative for Germany” is an extremist German political party. Neo-Nazi at heart. Pulled off its first win in a local election. Thought it may be the first of many.

Germany prepared to return to the days of Hitler? The world is screwed up. Not just Germany. However the party’s victory is a matter of concern. Resembles the way Hitler began.

Trump seems more interested in his renovation projects than the Iran War.

I do not understand why Trump and Michael Cohen have reunited. Especially from Cohen’s perspective.

Maureen Dowd’s 9/5 New York Times Opinion piece titled “Not So Supreme, Mr. Roberts” has some “striking” words about Trump: “He is an Olympic-class sprinter. He breaks the law so fast that the law is left in orange dust…..Trump is an outlaw and our system was not built for another in the Oval…..our leaders – and their families – will not be voracious scum in another…..The Constitution was built on the idea that the President would have enough decency and morality that they just wouldn’t run around exploiting the gaps…..for Trump, it’s like red meat.”

Interesting. Pope Leo VIV loves to play tennis. Which he does frequently. On a court tucked in the northern corner of the Vatican.

I was an “A.I.” when in college. I wrote term papers for other students for a fee.

Gloria Steinem is missed big time. Not only by women, by men also. We need more people like her regardless of sex.

Finally! I thought I was the only one complaining about how much hotter the U.S. has gotten. The New York times in a 9/7 article says it loud and clear: “America has gotten much hotter.”

The Donald has “new hair.” He showed a notably darker nearly brown hair as he departed Air Force One on Friday.

Want instant charisma? Swift. A psychotherapist says “noting and naming” other people’s strengths can make you seem remarkable to other persons.

Hard to believe! Impossible to believe! Vanity Fair has a recent article titled “Pete Hegseth 2028?” He is thinking of running for President! God help us were he to succeed!

An interesting article in Smithsonian Magazine 9/4 re the Muppets. The thrust is that Kermit the Frog was simply trying to put on one show on 9/5/1976 when it opened on British TV. Fifty years later, the Muppets are one of the largest stars in TV history. Its entities certain to grow even further.

I have spent most of my time day and night in bed with my left foot elevated. Per Dr. Norris’ orders to reduce the swelling in that fashion. Swelling down 90 percent. Pain 75 percent. Getting there.

Had to  go out last night, however. Robert drove me to buy some groceries. Cupboard bare again. I had eaten breakfast cereal two mornings in a row with Diet Pepsi. I was out of chocolate milk. Would you believe, tasted good!

Bought nothing. Nothing cost $40. Hard to believe how $40 purchased so little.

I am going out tonight. Need to get out. Fran and Tom came down to visit me. I have only seen them twice because of my foot. Embarrassing.

Enjoy your day!
