Late with today’s blog. Almost 3 in the afternoon. My morning and afternoon filled with doctor visits. Nothing new. Just check-ups which took a long time.
President Biden awarded his son Hunter with a “full and unrestricted pardon.”
I agree with what President Biden did. Legally and factually correct. Let me put it in perspective for you.
The tax evasion issues. Paid in full years ago together with interest and penalties. Although my specialty was environmental law, I had handled a couple of tax evasion in federal court successfully. Thereafter for a number of years, other attorneys and CPAs would have their clients hire me to handle the court cases. So another specialty was added to what I became known for. Though few in comparison to my environmental work.
Where the debt owed was paid in full, jail time was never considered. A fine and a misdemeanor plea. They were going to send Hunter to jail. Unfair. Grossly unfair. The President was correct when he described it as “selective prosecution.”
The other charge involved lying on a gun permit application. Hunter did. He answered one question improperly. He was asked if he was using illegal drugs. He was back then. He said no.
Understand what was involved. The lie. He did get a gun permit. He had the gun a total of 11 days. Never even fired it.
Jail time! No way! No one goes to jail under these circumstances. A misdemeanor plea, if anything, plus a small fine.
The jail time being discussed for Hunter was 3 1/2 years to 5 1/2 years. No way, Jose! They were out to punish the Biden name and the President himself!
The President a father. Could he have done less? No way. I would have done the same thing. The President probably assumed sanity would prevail in the final analysis as all such cases end. He failed to recognize the hatred involved. Get ’em as opposed to Justice.
Family is family. A father takes care of his son. When the system did not work as it did in most if not all other cases, he retracted and did the correct thing by pardoning his son. You would have done it also.
Kash Patel. Another bad choice by Trump.
Patel is a disgrace and unqualified to be Director of the FBI.
Trump has to get rid of the present Director Chris Wray first. Ray either resigns or is fired. If he resigns, Trump can arrange for Patel to be approved by the Senate, assuming he has the votes to do so. And Pastel goes to work as a bona fide employee. If Trump fires Wray and the Senate refuses to approve Patel, Trump can appoint him for two years. That’s it. However two years is enough time for Patel to do the damage he claims he will. Not of which will be good for the U.S.
Now comes Pete Hegseth. He is turning out to be worse than Matt Gaetz.
Hegseth has two abuses in his history. Sex and alcohol. More than one time. Repetitively.
Hegseth’s mother sent her son Pete a lengthy email several years ago decrying his abuse of women. It was read on TV this morning in full. Bad stuff, heavy stuff! His own mother!
She retracted the email recently saying she was sorry she sent it.
Trump wants him to be his Secretary of Defense. As such, he will be in charge of all U.S. military forces. He’ll have them on the streets fighting Democrats.
Hegseth has written some books. One is “American Crusade: Our Fight to Stay Free.” In it Hegseth said he believes there are “irreconcilable differences between the Left and the Right in America leading to perpetual conflict that cannot be resolved through the political process.”
He further called for an “American crusade”, which he described as “a holy war for the righteous cause of human freedom.”
Do you really want Hegseth for Secretary of Defense? In control of American troops?
I have more notes to write about. Getting late, however. I want to get this blog out to you. So I end it here.
Enjoy your day!
May I point out the tax issues Hunter Biden was in trouble with were mitigated with at least his honesty and repayment in full. Furthermore it was hardly a scheme involving lots of money or anyone but himself.
Contrast that with Donald Trump, who apparently has never paid taxes, at least in these last few decades. He has aggressively hid everything and refused to even reveal most of any documents (including the actual returns) in his own defense. Furthermore he has let his long term and trusted accountant actually take the fall and serve jail time for his part in DT’s crimes.
….and that’s OK??? – Talk about glazz houses
I believe that the American military will not mindlessly obey Trump and do whatever he says.
I’ll take your bet and up it $1,000. They’re in his pocket too, wait and see!
By accepting Joe’s, his father, very broad pardon, He also has given up his 5th amendment cover. Now Biden Jr. can be called in to give
testimony and will have to give truthful answers.
Do you think his rejected grandchild will be blamed for it all?
Well the DOJ mindlessly obey Biden or was it the Democrats.
True but what makes you think he has not already told the truth and all the truth. He confessed. The Bidens are not Republican MAGA lier. Nor are most Democrats, regardless of what Alex Jones and the rest of the “wacko” world want to make everybody think.
Now Trump has the green light to pardon ALL of the Jan 6th folk
As if THAT is the trigger to give Trump permission. Did you miss what Trump did with his pals Manafort, Stone and Flynn.. to name a few?
If you believe he wouldn’t otherwise you are mistaken.
Lou, you and crooked Joe have something more than the same law school in common!
In January 2010, the father won a judgment of $506,856 against his children. Louis Petrone could not be reached for comment.
I loathe Trump, Trumpism and many who are his cult members. That said the office holder should not be allowed to pardon family, friends or people connected to them by way of unlawful actions or intent. That goes for Biden, Trump or any other. Where does it end?
As a father approaches the end of his life, he often seeks peace and forgiveness for his cruel treatment of his son (and daughter). Just forgive and forget. Maybe God will forgive me too is the thought process. He’s not gonna. Bank on it.
The Biden administration called for taking down tax cheats and strong gun control laws. Hunter violated the law in both those areas, and was convicted by a jury of his peers. This pardon has nothing to do with Trump. I don’t think that Trump is fit to be dog catcher. But to not call out the hypocrisy and blatant disregard for the law exhibited by Biden here shows that the Dems want the laws applied only to us common folks, not to the elites. Biden leaves office in disgrace, which is fitting.
Nice try. On any given day in American politics the DEMS have a far more vocal pushback on their own. Repubs- quite the opposite, as has been on display for the past eight years. Heck the GOP even dragged their feet with Santos.
Disgrace? LOL
1. Burn pit protection for Vets
2. The Chip Act
3. Infrastructure legislation
4. The soft landing of a strained economy via Covid
5. No acts of insurrection, sedition or election denial.
Try again.
Prior history of similar situations shows that the penalty doesn’t fit the crime.
Like what?
