IT’S FIVE O’CLOCK SOMEWHERE

It’s five o’clock somewhere. Definitely in Key West this holiday weekend.

Jimmy Buffett time!

Jimmy found success in Key West. Magnified it world wide.

He died physically three years ago on September 1, 2023. However, he will live forever and ever more.

Key West is celebrating Jimmy big time this weekend. It all began yesterday. This is Key West’s slow time for visitors. This week hotel reservations were next to nothing. A perfect example the Ocean Key House. One of Key West’s largest and finest hotels. Reservations were 29 rooms per evening. Beginning yesterday, the hotel has 10o percent occupancy. Everyone wants to celebrate Jimmy Buffett time!

Music and singing will permeate Duval Street by day and night through Monday evening. And most assuredly, it will be “five o’clock” all day and night. Non stop fun!

Unfortunately, I remained in last night and will the rest of the weekend till Monday evening. My body can’t handle the crowd. Too many even for me to go out in a wheel chair.

Fran and Tom took me to lunch yesterday, however. Harpoon Harry’s. I have not been there in four years. One of the owners pissed me off big time and I stopped patronizing the place. I was pleased when I entered that two waitresses remembered me.

Fran and Tom will enjoy every aspect of Jimmy Buffett Days. Good people! They deserve it and know how to do it!

A mistrial was finally declared the the Clancy murder case after 7 days. The jury was declared deadlocked. Could not render a unanimous decision. One juror held out. Eleven were for acquittal.

The case will have to be retried or the defendant will be committed to a mental institution.

A difficult case to say what “justice” should have been.

The Medieval Period lasted 1,000 years from 500-1,500 CE.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar: “When cruelty unfolds in front of us, will we accept the comfort of inaction?”

DeWitt Clinton was Mayor of New York, Governor of New York, a New York  Senator, and Presidential candidate. He ran against James Madison in 1812 and lost.

When Governor, Clinton focused his attention on connecting the Hudson River and Lake Erie with a canal.. An expanse of several hundred miles.

His position was unpopular. “DeWitt’s Ditch” and “Clinton’s folly.”

You never know! The canal became the “door” to what was considered the West at the time. Became big time popular!

Sears in Mexico has been alive and well for over 90 years. Not the same brand as the U.S. Sears that went bust many years ago. The Mexico Sears is owned by a Mexican billionaire and a Mexican entity.

Are we back in the 1930s? The world is becoming screwed up today as it was back then. I refer specifically to Germany at the moment. A far right political party known as the “Alternative for Germany” is gaining power. About to win a significant election. The Party is deep with neo-Nazi ties.

Gasoline is averaging $4.15 a gallon across the country. Diesel at $5.85 a gallon. Remember, Trump says worry not, it will go down!

Middle names go back to ancient Rome. Especially with the aristocracy. A middle name was referred to as “tria nomina.”

Middle name activity moved into Medieval Europe.

Still around today in Europe and the U.S. Ergo can be expected to continue forever.

The last name “Kennedy” is one of pride and distinction. Was not always so. It was considered to mean “ugly head.” It has made quite a journey to that of respectability.

Last week it was the right foot giving me trouble. This week the left. Big time pain with every step.

I have a call into Dr. Norris.

To those in Key West, enjoy the Buffett party time. Nothing could be better!

I will not be going out. Repeating myself from earlier, too many people to combat with a sore foot and cane.

Enjoy your day!

DINNER WITH FRAN AND TOM DIXON LAST NIGHT

Fran and Tom Dixon are very dear friends. For so many years. They are Buffalo residents who visit Key West 3-4 times a year, Always stay at the Ocean Key House.

Tom has some business interests in Key West. However they said this trip was to see me. They are always concerned about my health and well being.

They apparently did me some good last night. I got five hours of solid sleep! As you know, I do not sleep well in my old age.

They rose at 3:30 yesterday morning to catch a 6 a.m. flight to Key West. Crazy!

We had dinner at Ocean Key’s Hot Tin Roof. I have not dined there in years. The meal was outstanding. I enjoyed lobster bisque, salmon and key lime pie. They were off to the Chart Room after dinner. I had them drive me home first. I was dead tired.

We will be going out again tonight. I look forward to it.

Fran brought me her usual gift. Her home made fudge. Always delicious! Tom stopped at Publix for my gift from him. Thirty some odd bottles of water. He is aware how much water I consume daily. They also brought one gift from the both of them. Rosary beads.

I had mentioned some time ago that I wanted to begin carrying rosary beads. My problem was there did not appear to be a Catholic book store in Key West. I was wrong they told me. There was one behind the Church. However, I was not to buy them as they were going to Rome and would get me a pair at the Vatican.

The gave me a beautiful set of rosary beads last night. Purchased and blessed at the Vatican.

They will become a “nearer my God to Thee” in my old age. Since my heart surgeries a few years ago, I figured better I would be if I found God again. Which I have done in other ways. The beads add to it.

Next time maybe Tom will buy me a new car. He rented a Volkswagen yesterday. A mid sized SUV. What a magnificent vehicle! What a great ride!

Today was to be Trump Day for my blog. I blew it!

I had pages of notes finished yesterday ready for today’s blog. I mistakenly threw them away. By the time I recalled the error of my ways, the garbage truck had taken the notes away. So less Trump today than I had intended.

I could minimize the Trump effort by saying he is a flaming asshole who is destroying the U.S. and other nations. That would be no fun, however. So I will write a bit about the Donald.

Right or wrong, most of our Presidents have had relationships on the side. Trump goes a step farther, however. His discretion is negative zero. Natalie Harp a perfect example. And whoever else over the years.

In the meantime, Melania lives in New York City.

Does not look good. Is not good.

Especially by a President who in his second term claims to have found God.

Canadians fear Trump not. They have even written a song which Canadians now sing evidencing their lack of fear for the man. It is called the Battle Hymn of Canada. Its tune similar to the Battle Hymn of the Republic.

I share the entire Canadian tune with you.

“We shall stand as true Canadians, maple leaves are flying free,

From the mountains to the prairies, to the shores of every sea.

We shall never bow to the tyrants, nor let hatred shape our creed,

Our truth is marching on!

Glory, glory, hallelujah!

Glory, glory, hallelujah!

Glory, glory, hallelujah!

Our truth is marching on!

We shall not be ruled by leaders built on greed and fear and lies,

We reject the call to follow where the stars and stripes have flown.

With our voices joined together, we will let our spirits rise,

Our truth is marching on!

Glory, glory, hallelujah!

Glory, glory, hallelujah!

Glory, glory, hallelujah!

Our truth is marching on!

We are not the fifty-first, nor will we kneel to Trump’s command,

The north  strong and free forever, standing proud in our own name.

With a heart that beats for justice, we will keep our nation’s flag,

Our truth is marching on!

Glory, glory, hallelujah!

Glory, glory, hallelujah!

Glory, glory, hallelujah!”

Enjoy your day!

91 YEAR OLD HIKES APPALACHIAN TRAIL

I am 91 years old. I do well overall. I do have a number of physical limitations. My brain is terrific, however

There are 91 year olds who are still physically in great shape. Like Dale “Grey Beard” Sanders who just reclaimed the rank of being the oldest adult to complete the 2,193 mile Appalachian Trail. The Trail runs from Springer Mountain in Georgia to Mount Katahdin in Maine.

God bless him!

Was Lady Godiva for real? If she existed, did she ride naked trough the streets of Coventry?

There was a real 11th century noblewoman by the name Lady Godiva. However her naked horseback ride is considered nothing more than legend. Somewhat like King Arthur and Robin Hood. Her nude ride with flaming hair not an historical fact.

The price of a colege education is on the rise. Dramatically so. Some have already surpassed $100,000 a year. Out of touch with reality! Fewer will attend college. Colleges will suffer economically. Some will fail.

Clancy jury is deadlocked after four days of deliberations. The judge will have to declare a “hung jury” if case not decided soon.

Pure unadulterated stupidity! Measles issue involved. Two persons with opposing positions.

Governor Shapiro advised there had been two measles deaths. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. came out and said deaths were by another cause, even though each deceased had measles at the time of death.

I doubt Kennedy speaks truth. He and Trump are birds of a feather. Both liars. The vaccination issue involved. I suspect Kennedy is lying to keep his anti-vaccination issue alive. A sick erroneous way to govern.

There is increasing dialogue re the use of a bidet. I have been using one for close to 50 years and highly recommend the bidet. The end product cleaner. Its use significantly cheaper than toilet paper.

It is believed there were seven wonders of the Ancient World. Only one remains. The Pyramid of Giga.

Pounds of annual bread consumption by Americans per person is 57.

Shopping for American changed in 1962. The shift was monumental. From department stores, five and dime variety stores, supermarkets, and mom and pop stores, 3 new retail chains opened. Kmart, Target, and Walmart.

Christa McAuliffe: “May your future be limited only  by your dreams.”

Japan formally signed surrender documents this day in 1945 ending World War II.

Sixty percent of Americans consider themselves “working class.” Half of them have a Bachelor’s degree or are in upper income.

Too much Donald Trump to discuss today. The blog would be endless. I leave Donald to tomorrow.

I never made it to The Grand yesterday. I was wiped out. It has to do with my sleeping pattern. Sleeping for me got all screwed up by the lengthy periods I was in the hospital. Difficult to correct.

Steve and Cindy brought me the cheese dish from The Grand. Something I frequently order. They were concerned I might not eat. It was delicious!

Nurse Paige comes at 11 this morning. Love her!

The Dixons arrive from Buffalo today. I am supposed to join them for dinner at Ocean Key. Hope I am able to make it. I would be unhappy to experience two bad dinner times in a row.

Enjoy your day!

JOHN WAYNE’S FIRST STARRING ROLE

When you’re not feeling well, you end up spending a lot of time in bed watching old movies on TV. At least, I do.

Yesterday it was John Wayne and his first starring role. He played a good guy cowboy, of course. Did the bad guys in.

The film a 1930 one. Must have been one of the earliest talkies. Titled “The Big Trail.”

I enjoy Wayne and the film. In a lesser role was Tyrone Power who in due course became a big time star also.

Timmy the Turtle was released back to the ocean recently by the Turtle Hospital. A huge crowd cheered Timmy back to his home stomping grounds. Timmy a huge turtle. One of the biggest I have seen. I watched the video of the release.

Timmy interestingly is a female with a male name. It was reported she will be able to bear more little ones.

Party balloons will soon be in shortage. Globally. The balloons are blown up with helium. The Iran War has spurned a helium shortage. Another thank you to the Donald. I doubt he or his people considered what effect the helium shortage would be. Major already in the U.S.

An example of the problem which has arisen is Dollar Tree’s 2nd quarter report for this year. Dollar Tree claims the helium shortage caused it to sustain a $15 million loss.

The biggest modern beer heist ever! Would you believe! On August 17 in Montclair, California, $25 million of Anheuser-Busch Pabst Blue Ribbon was stolen from a distribution center. Amounted to 40,000 pounds of the brew.

Anheuser-Busch pissed! Has become actively engaged in the investigation. Even offering a reward.

Sounds like a return to the bootlegging 1930s.

A Richmond, Virginia female doctor was awaken in the middle of the night as a bat tried to enter her mouth. Not a tasteful story. Big time scarry.

Consumer cost of pharmaceuticals will rise significantly in the near future. The cause will be nothing more than predatory pricing by drug producers.

I dislike reporting negatively about Key West businesses. However there are times it is required without question.

Two local restaurants have been closed down because of what amounts to dirty housekeeping. One is the Ocean Grill at 1075 Duval Street. The other Hurricane Hole at 5130 Overseas Highway. Ocean Grill had 9 violations. Hurricane Hole 14.

Hurry and clean up fellas. Both of the facilities are great places to eat.

Bobby Fischer: “Chess is a matter of delicate judgment, knowing when to punch and how to duck.”

Japan’s Great Kante Earthquake killed over 140,000 this day in 1923.

Germany began World War II this day in 1939 by invading Poland.

The wreck of the Titanic was found this day in 1985.

“PainByRomaine.” Refers to Caesar salads. The review by Olympic star goaltender Aerin Frankel of Team USA. The work was released in 2024.

Aerin is the “world expert” when it comes to Caesar salads. She has tried many everywhere in the world. Expensive and non-expensive restaurants. Her opinion respected.

Rosetta Stone claims it is the world’s best app for persons to download if they want to learn a foreign language “for real.”

Key West has been experiencing a significant amount of rain each day recently. We need it, as most of Southern Florida does.

Yellow fever was the “infection of the day” in the 1860s. On this day in 1862 in Key West, yellow fever killed 20 members of the 90th New York Regiment and another 27 men in the Marine Hospital.

Somehow cut the back of my right leg drying off after showering yesterday. Robert drove me to Dr. Norris who dressed the wound. Then Robert took me to Publix where I had a few items to pick up. He also showed me how to check out without a girl and on my own.

Tonight, The Grand. Hope I make it!

Tomorrow my dear friends Fran and Tom Dixon are arriving for a week from Buffalo. Can’t wait! I enjoy them both tremendously.

Spoke with them on the phone last night. Tom told me we are having dinner at the Ocean Key House Wednesday evening. I have not eaten there in several years.

Enjoy your day!
