VALENTINE’S DAY DINNER DAY LATE

My Valentine’s Day celebration was a day late. My podcast show was scheduled tuesday night.

Dee took me to dinner to celebrate the occasion. Note, she took me. An unusual experience. The lady pays. Loved it!

Even gave me a box of candy and a small stuffed animal. The animal to sleep with. Can’t win all the time.

Dinner at Spencer’s. Outside. On covered porch. Terrific meal. Outstanding company. We sat when the sun was shining. The view to die for. Still there when it got dark. A storm came up. Heavy rain and lightning. Wild!

Lunch time found me at the Cuban Coffee Queen. A couple of weeks since my last visit. I enjoy the place. Sat for a while enjoying a Cuban cheese toast and cold Cuban coffee. Reading the newspapers, of course.

Stopped at Publix on the way home. Needed only a few things. Cost me $63. How do families survive these days?

An interesting story in this morning’s Key West Citizen. A restoration of some of the gravestones at the Key West Cemetery.

A special grant had  been obtained. A number of graves were repaired. They were showing their age, toppled over, etc. The restorers believe the restored gravestones are good for 150-200 years.

My Facebook Go Live with Key West Lou show two weeks old today. I am absolutely impressed with the increase in viewers. Dramatic.

Take a look. See me live and chatting about this and that. Whatever moves me at the moment.

The NRA wins again!

Obama was responsible for a regulation last year prohibiting guns to be sold to persons with mental disorders. Affected 75,000 persons. A needed regulation from my perspective.

It was payback time yesterday. The Senate voted to repeal the regulation. The House had done it earlier. The bill goes to Trump for his signature. Trump will sign it.

Called political payback. Stupidity applies, also. Some nut is going to go off and kill several persons/children at one time.

What happened to conscience?

Enjoy your day!

  1. The NRA wins again!
    end quote

As pro NRA and pro gun as I am, The mentally ill should not be allowed access to firearms and I can’t imagine anyone thinking differently. I haven’t studied this but I’d think there is more to this than what it appears to be on the surface.

  2. Patrick,

The NRA, no different than any special interest organization, can justify just about any position they take. What is the theoretical and practical need for the Second Amendment? For some that is for personal protection, for others the idea of offering defense from invaders inside and out. Taking away personal ownership has historically been the precursor to worse things to come, that is a given. The NRA is somewhat static and heavily conservative, often it is more about the politics and posturing than efficacy. There is a false sense of relevance in their fight to protect the right to bear arms. There is simply no protection in place, and none to come, to allow private ownership of weapons on par with what one would face from a rouge military or foreign invader. The fact that the majority of military grade weapons are illegal or inaccessible is due to regulation. Joe Public simply can’t legally own a shoulder-launched surface-to-air missile, period. During the revolution the weaponry was reasonably matched, today the very same revolutionaries would be at a substantial disadvantage, the outcome most likely very different. The main point being, there is regulation and plenty of it but the NRA can’t make progress there but they can grand-stand on the little stuff. They can play politics to get the standard lowered, or strip some minor regulation but they will never have the juice to make the Second Amendment what it once was, real and effective against Tyranny. No Government, of any political party will allow it.

  3. (1) The attempt to limit guns using that SocSec test was lame. There are very few folks who are in that group. And, if they can manage their own money, what makes you thinking they will be buying guns. Also, if the can’t operate money, how can they operate a gun. (It’s not as easy as Hollywood makes it seem.)

    (2) The guerrillas in Afghanistan made the Russians leave and have been doing the same to the USA. It’s not about weapons parity; it’s about an armed citizenry protecting itself. “You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.” — apocryphal unsourced quote attributed to Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto

    (3) “And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand? . . .” — Alexander Solzhenitsyn

    (4) It takes a government and an unarmed citizenry to create a genocide.

    • I actually agree with you on a lot of this. But the mentally ill, that is people diagnosed with a serious mental disorder are not part of any militia, or at least not a SANE one. Therefore, they should NOT be able to hold a loaded gun let alone Own one. That is just plain common sense.

  4. Louis, I just happened to catch you live today around 3:20pm on FB live. Your voice was good. You sat back from camera which was an improvement. Good job, Louis. I even FB commented 2 times. Good job. Keep it up.

  5. Lou I see you’re starting to report “Fake News” you hate so much you just can’t see. There is so much more to the NRA story but you report 2 out of 100 points.. Fake news fake Lou. You’re a fake.

  6. Well, don’t expect me to hold your head. I’ll be busy watching real news. Whenever I watch the likes of Racheal, Chris or Al then I feel like going outside.
