BANK OF AMERICA SCREWS POOREST CUSTOMERS

The rich get richer, the poor poorer. Never fails.

The new tax law gives Bank of America a $3.5 billion tax break.

Last week, Bank of America announced a $2.4 billion profit for the last quarter of 2017.

Monday, Bank of America announced it would no longer provide free online checking accounts. Henceforth, it would charge fees on accounts maintaining a low balance. Unless, the customer had a direct deposit of $250 per month or maintained a balance of at least $1,500.

The move affects customers with low balances. Some as low as $10. Some that regularly overdraw because they do not earn enough to meet their bills.

There was another announcement last week. Referred to as the Billionaire Boom. In 2017, the world’s richest 1 percent took in 82 percent of all new wealth. The bottom 50 percent took in zip. Nothing.

The study indicated a new billionaire was created every two days.

The money coming from wealth and not work. An observation: “The billionaire boom is not a sign of a thriving economy, but a symptom of a failing economic system.”

Owners and workers alike must experience a rise in income if there is to be a true robust economy. If not, there could be problems not wanted. A people will permit themselves to be defecated upon only so long. Then something adverse could occur.

The preceding philosophical. The following practical.

A community needs visiting nurses and hospice. All of us have experienced such assistance, or know some one who has, at some time in the past.

The Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice of the Florida Keys announced it will be closing its doors as of February 28. The non-profit can no longer make it financially.

The reasons twofold. Ongoing financial problems and Irma. Irma was the final blow. The one that really did the organization in.

Visiting Nurses has been operating since 1984. Presently providing assistance to 20 hospice patients and 11 home health patients.

Twenty two full and part time employees affected.

Spent yesterday getting ready for my podcast show last night. Tuesday Talk with Key West Lou.

Trump dominates the news. As much of a political junkie as I am, I get sick and tired of talking and hearing about Trump on a daily basis. Last night, I tried to do a show where Trump was not mentioned at all. Almost made it. Mentioned his  name only one time.

A blog I enjoy reading is the Justice Building Blog. Out of Miami. Talks primarily about lawyers and judges. Every now and then, about a situation not related to the law.

The blog is normally signed: From Occupied America, Fight the Power. The January 22 publication: From Occupied, and  Fully Funded (for now), America, Fight the Power of President Stephen Miller.

The story about to be related has been mentioned many times through out the years.

The Japanese occupied Guam from 1941 to 1944. Shoichi Yokoi was a Japanese sergeant. He was left behind when the last Japs left the island.

Yokoi did not know the War had ended in 1945. He hid in the hills till this day in 1972 when he was discovered.

He returned home a national hero.

Enjoy your day!
