I’M GOING HOME!

Power restored.

I am leaving in about an hour.

No time for blog today. Nor will there be one tomorrow. I will still be on the road.

I cannot thank Jean and Joe enough for their kindness. Was it a musical line…..That’s what friends are for!

To the who wrote adverse comments about my stay here, what can I tell you. One of you even called me a leech.

Besides benefiting from the goodness of good hearted people, I look at it as payback. I have taken in persons in distress many times. Anywhere from 5 days to 6 months. Called do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

To another who criticized, I did more than dinner. That is me.

Then there were those who thought it improper for me to have left. I had a lot of company. Mayor Cates said the population of Key West is 25,000 and 20,000 had left. I had a lot of company.

Additionally if one could afford to leave, he/she would have been crazy to stay with a then category 5 on the way.

Then there is the burden factor. I am 82 with a bad heart. Cannot walk more than 50 feet without being seriously breathless. I have a balance problem. Fall frequently. There is the tightening in the chest if I exert myself.

This is my last reference to these issues. I am moving on. Hope you will also.

Enjoy your day!

  1. Safe travels Lou! I look forward to hearing about the state of Key West and the Chart Room upon your return.

  2. I understand there are still many flat tires. Apparently the road hasn’t yet been fully broomed. I hope your road side insurance is in effect.

  3. Lou, it’s been a true pleasure having you here with us. Our little group has bonded for life! Safe travels home. I’ll see you in Key West in a couple weeks.

  4. Louis, You don’t owe anyone an explanation as to why you evacuated or why you remained a guest at Jean and Joe’s for the past two weeks. You were an invited guest and, obviously, you all enjoyed each other’s company. Good friends, all.

Be safe in your travels home, take your time and keep us posted on your progress and ultimate arrival. I know, even with the little, temporary annoyances that you’ll probably encounter along the way and once you get back in the Keys, it will feel good to be home again. As Jimmy Buffet sang after Katrina, “breathe in, breathe out, move on.”

  5. I concur with KWBound and Beth; you owe no one an explanation and it’s your prerogative to remove the vile and offensive comments and block the trolls that are making them. Stay safe, good luck and be well!

  6. Lou, you are 82, you OWE no explanations to anyone for anything. Your Alabama experience sounded great despite the reason behind it and I’m sure all involved are better for the time together.

  7. Patrick – with your ‘special’ personality, and writing skills, could we ask that if your are going to attempt something sarcastic, or something humorous – could you please specifically announce it first – I think we all would appreciate the warning.

      • I couldn’t understand how some sort of “special font” was going to alter that awkward post in any way. Besides Leonardo, you shouldn’t use the word “intelligence” in such a misappropriated or careless way.

  8. Just watched quite a bit a private video around Old Town. Very little structural damage. Willie T and Bob’s were hit pretty hard, but, the town seemed to be spared. There is a lot of limb/shrub damage but only a few trees came down. The Tree Top and Tree Bar trees are still standing. Time will tell if they come back. The town should be back in business soon.

    • Yep, tune into the Key West Harbour webcam and this confirms your report. Tourists already at the beat-up SOuthenrmost Point Monument and Sloppy Joes webcams show staff has it clean, tables ready and I assume fridges loading.

Patrick – Is that your attempt at satire again, or perhaps irony. It’s irony isn’t it? (Notice how this is written without any “special font”?)

Patrick. Where is the special font you promised?

    LOL. I don’t need a special font. I understand.

But, I’ve mentioned to Lou several times that it would be nice to have a line of special fonts or emojis [sp] or whatever they are called. I’ll try to remember to use them next time, just for you special needs folks. [smiley face]

      • You probably couldn’t figure that out and you would need some indicator wouldn’t you. I’m not the one that starts with the condescension, for that, just look in the mirror. This is getting boring, you’re too easy. Goodbye.
As others have mentioned, this blog should get back on track. I’ll try to do my part.

          • ummm Patrick sorry that was supposed to be “you really do not seem to be Barry aware of your personal reality” My vision is not so good anymore and I didn’ spell check that message properly. It was not meant to be a compliment.

  10. I thought our time together was very special. Friends became fast friends in 10 days. I cannot remember ever being so gratified by an experience. I was sorry to hear you had left for home but knew it was inevitable.

I do have some advice. I would purge the haters. They offer nothing constructive or positive for you or your blog. They are a scourge.

    Enjoy your day! yourself

    • I am glad everything worked out so well for those from Key West and for their benefactors. Human kindness still trumps hate, even on this blog.

Oh, I completely understood what was meant. I’m Barry aware of my personal reality.
