Weather did change. Front moved out yesterday. The day was sunny and …..cool. Yes, cool. A cold front followed the rain. The temperature was 75 by day and night. Comfortable. A tee shirt by day. A sweatshirt by night.

Today is Friday and Friday is The key West Lou Legal Hour!

Join me at 10 am my time at http://www.konkbroadcasting.com/ for my one hour internet show. Available world wide.

Great topics today! Like Gadhafi, Obama job bill, banks on the path of screwing American public once again, poor dollar compensation for the war dead, the Chinese and divorce, Occupy Wall Street and China, painting nude bodies on Times Square, Van Gogh, Supreme Court to decide if lying is constitutionally protected, and more.

A Whoopie! show!

Yesterday, I worked on today’s show. Also, babysat Ally. She was home sick. A temperature.

Ally was on the computer when I was with her. This six year old is swifter and more adept at the keyboard than I. Amazing, the children of today!

Bocce last night. We got our asses whipped! Lost all three games!

We played the Bubbas. They are good every year. The best. A fact, not an excuse.

Going into last night’s match, the Bubbas were ranked #2 and we were ranked #3.

The match was not even close! They are sooooo good!

After bocce, it was Don’s place and then home.

Today, I have the internet show and my businessmen’s luncheon afterwards. Tonight, Goombay! The start of Fantasy Fest! I am doing Goombay with a bunch from Don’s Place.

Enjoy your day!

The front is moving out. Beware my friends to the north. You are in for a hell of a rain storm!

I can actually see sun this morning. It is shining on everything and eveywhere. Just a smathering of clouds.

I feel like Noah’s Ark has just landed and me and the animals are dancing around outside.

It is cooler. I mentioned yesterday that the forecast was for a ten degree drop. It is obvious. Sunny and cool. A good combination. I will take it.

Monday’s Miami Herald reported this front from a differnet perspective. It wrote…..Autumn and winter want to come in and summer doesn’t want to give up.

I decided to throw caution to the wind and go out yesterday. It was still raining. However, I had had enough. I kept my haircurt appointment with Lori. She told me the day before had been a bad business day. Only five customers.

The drive into Key West was not bad. The boulevard was more flooded than usual. I visited Lisa after seeing Lori. Grandkids home. Schools closed because of the weather.

Many streets were closed off. Lisa’s was. Big sign and barricade warning motorists to stay out. I drove around the barricade. There was no water in the street at the time. Lisa told me earlier it had been flooded.

What I did sense was an odor. Ugh! Terrible! Not sewage waste. Key West has separate drainage systems for waste and rainwater. It was the smell of rotten fish.

When I left Lisa, I had to zig zag. Take a different route every couple of blocks. Many streets were cloesed off. I ended up on a street in new town that was flooded. Big time for 2 blocks. It did not appear bad at first. I decided to plough through. It was deeper than I thought. I was concerned for a few moments that my tiny Volswagen would not make it.

My internet show tomorrow morning. Ten my time. The Key West Lou Legal Hour.
http://www.konkbroadcasting.com/.

A lot of goodies to talk about. The world gets crazier each week. One item involves two major U.S. banks that are moving their European investments into a different bank account/special fund. One where the United States guarantees their investments one hundred cents on the dollar. Trillions are involved. These banks will get bailed out by the taxpayers once again in the event Europe defaults.

Washington covering the banks’ asses again. The screw job goes on. I wish someone had covered my bad investments over my life time one hundred cents on the dollar!

Lisa telephoned. Ally sick. No school for her today. I have to babysit this afternoon for a while.

Bocce tonight.

I questioned yesterday whether we would be able to play after all the rain. Don thought we would. The new clay courts would suck up the water quickly. The cold this morning will also accelerate the drying process.

Enjoy your day!

The headline in this morning’s paper: Keys Seperate from Mainland.

The first two sentences of the article read: Water carries keys away from mainland. The islands are gradually being swept out to sea by five days of frontal rain.

Not for real. Made up. By me. But could be.

I do not recall such consistent and heavy rain. Even in hurricane season. This is wild!

Things were better during the day yesterday. The gray was lighter. No rain all day. Not until around 4 in the afternoon. Then it came! And it has been coming ever since. Thunder, lightening and torrents of rain. Bing, bang, boom! Plus, a big wind.

The wind had to be huge. I looked outside on my deck this morning. Many of my deck chairs are flipped over. Two in the pool. All heavy chairs.

My reporter friend Sean Kinney wrote for the Keynoter this morning on Google regarding the weather. His email was posted at 6:05. I share some of his comments with you regarding Key West and the storm.

Sean reports there was a tornado warning for all the keys at 3:45 yesterday afternoon. Lasted till 10 in the evening. I never knew.

He further reported that tornado or not, there would be strong winds. Explains my deck chairs.

Strong winds today, also.

Sean indicated that the waves off shore would be 7-9 feet. No boating today.

Front and United Streets are flooded. They are always flooded.

Front is downtown off Duval. Next to the Pier House. Not reported, but 2-3 feet would not surprise me. I have crossed barfefoot when the water was up to my knees.

United runs immediately parallel to Lisa’s street. Robert and Ally’s school is located on United. There are permanent signs with lights on them which blink when the street is flooded warning people. I am sure the lights are blinking this morning. Lisa told me Montessori telephoned just after 6 this morning.  No school for Robert and Ally.

Sean also reported that businesses in the low lying areas were sandbagging their properties. An indication of anticipated problems.

The rain is supposed to end this evening. Moving north, folks! Enjoy it!

A cold spell will settle on Key West after the front leaves. The cold spell will last through the weekend. 80 by day and 70 by night. To you northerners, that may not sound cold. But to us it will be. A ten degree drop from what we have been accustomed to before the rain. I know you find it hard to believe, but we who live here will be chilled.

I was supposed to do dinner last night with Tim and Debra. They cancelled out. I stayed home. I was concerned about the roads.

Haircut with Lori this morning. I am going to cancel.

This evening i have a business meeting at 7 here in my home. No, not an Occupy Key West one. Questionable whether it will be held.

My time yestrday was not wasted. I spent most of it continuing my China research. Are you aware China has a high divorce rate? Yes. Big. The reason: infidelity. Especially on the part of the men. Today’s Chinese women will not tolerate it. There is a growing middle class and with it this mental fixation.

Those of you who write me directly at one of my email addresses have complained  the past three days that Yahoo was reporting my address did not exist. The same address I have had for 20 plus years.

I finally was able to straighten the problem out. The address is good again. Should never have not been. Any how, feel free to write me at p0221@yahoo.com if you like.

Enjoy your day!

How do I begin?

Rain, rain go away. Little Louis wants to play!

Maybe.

Actually this rain is turning out to be more serious than just a heavy rainstorm.

Seven inches of rain alone yesterday. Actually 6.9. A lot! Enough to close the Key West Airport for three hours. The taxiways were flooded. The word is the Airport will be closed some parts of today. Most flights have already been cancelled.

There are always irresponsible people. In between the showers, some are at the beaches in the water. Signs have been erected warning of rip tides. Rip tides are not common in Key West waters.

More than 10 inches of water has dropped on the area since the storm started over the weekend.

The rain is from a front that cane up from the southeast out of the Atlantic. The front is stalled over the keys. The projection is the storm will be with us through wednesday. Then it will head north to the mid-Atlantic states and then the northeast.

This morning seems better already. The flooded street in front of my home is bare of water. Lisa tells me so too is her street. The sky is a mixture of white and light gray clouds. Not the dark gray ones of the past few days. There is very little wind, though the water is still moving at a good clip.

My sense is the worst is over. It may rain today, but not badly. The front has decided to move on.

I even had a beautifully dramatic sunsrise to view this morning. From my bed. I face to the east when sleeping and had opened the glass sliding doors during the evening. The sun rose between two banks of clouds. The one in front gray. The one in back white. The sun in between. A bright orange sun.

I stayed in yesterday. All day. Not bad. TV was working. I did tons of research. It was a good day.

Tonight, I am going out. La Trattoria opened a new restaurant on the beach. I have not been there yet. I continue to go to the old one. Tim and Debbie Reynolds and I are having dinner. We decided to try the new one.

Enjoy your day!

I don’t believe the rain we are getting!

It is still pouring! This is day 4.

I am not complaining. It is a pleasant experience. Different. Torrential rain for four consecutive days. And to continue for a few more.

There is a tropical front that came up from the southeast. Not considered a hurricane or anything like that. Just a lot of rain. Key West is presently sitting right in the middle of the front. So it is certain this rain will continue for 2-4 more days.

The front carries wind with it. About 20 miles per hour. Gusts us to 35.

The streets are flooded. Remember Key West sits at sea level. There is no place for the water to go. The street in front of my house looks impassable this morning for about 300 feet. I was concerned last night as I drove in that my car would flood. I do not worry about my home flooding since it is built up on a man made hill which rises eight feet above the road.

Lisa telephoned. She lives in the middle of Key West. She told me her street is running high. Her lawn totally covered. Water at stoop height. Her street floods easily. Ran 6 1/2 feet high during Wilma.

She is concerned about her car. Fearful the water will reach the interior. She also does not know how she is going to get Robrt and Ally to school. She is not even thinking that the water might creep into her house. Nor did I mention the possibility to her.

Lisa just telephoned. She has posted a picture of her home as it sits in the water this morning on Facebook. Take a look! Says it all! Lisa Malcom on FB.

So much for the rain. I think it is fun. Provides a break from our usually great sunny weather. I will probably stay home all day and read and write. I will be happy.

The Key West Citizen had an interesting editorial yesterday in the Sunday paper.

Little Deer Key is about 30 miles up the road. Little deer live there. That is why the island is so named.

The tiny deer also roam nearby Big Pine Key and No Name Key.

Tiny is tiny. About 27 inches shoulder high. Not fearful of humans. The deer gather in groups of 10-30. Cover the roads, especially just before dusk.

The editorial concerned the safety of the deer. This is their mating season. They are a bit excited. Especially the males. Extra care is warranted when driving.

The season is known as a rut or rutting one. Reproduction time. The male deer is a buck. The female a doe. The buck is raring to go. The females know it. They give off a special scent to attract the male.

There are fewer bucks than doe.

The rutting season lasts only 24 hours. The male has much to do in that time. He performs with multiple doe. Lucky him!

No problem if a doe is not rutted. This special mating seson returns in about four weeks.

It is going to be a lonely day confined to my home because of the weather. A human doe would be very welcome.

Enjoy your day!

The weather is static. Rain. More rain. And more rain on top of that rain!

Strange weather. No hurricane or tropical storm involved. Three consecutive days of rain is highly unusual.

The weather report is for heavy rain today and tomorrow. We may get a break Tuesday.

The wind is stronger this morning than yesterday. The white caps behind my home are higher this morning.

I finally figured out where the wind is coming from. The southeast. Whenever the wind comes from the south, guaranteed the wind will be strong and the rain heavy.

The rain dampens no one’s mood. My Lisa said it well in her Facebook comment this morning: “The sun is still shining in my world.”

I had two objectives last night. To observe Occupy Key West at Mallory Square and then watch the Alabama/Mississippi game at the Sports Page Bar.

I accomplished one of the two. Batting .500 not bad under the circumstances.

The weather was horrible. Ergo, I opted to skip Occupy Key West. Not an excuse. A fact. It was not in me to stand on the edge of the Gulf and get blown around by the wind and water.

I note from news accounts and Facebook this morning, that Occupy was a success. The participants walked Duval, did their thing at Mallory Square and protested in front of Bank of America. I was especially delighted to see the pictures of the Occupy group in front of the Bank of America building. I consider Bank of America the whore of whores! Take a look at their mortgage foreclosure portfolio and you will understand.

Two pictures on Facebook were especially moving. One was a poster picture of the Statue of Liberty crying. The other a former soldier dressed in uniform carrying a sign saying…..2nd Time I’ve Fought For My Country.

I had a terrific time at the Sports Page Bar. Great game! This is the third time I have watched Alabama this year. I continue to believe they are the best college football team I have ever seen. The LSU game in a few weeks is going to be exciting.

The Sports Page was packed. I was partying with Alabama alumni Jean and David, Shoe Girl Stephanie, and Mississippi alumnus Sean. We were later joined by Issac and Sarah.

Owner Patrick running around working. A warm amiable guy. Came over to shake hands. Kristen there, also. My waitress friend. We shook hands. I would rather have kissed her. She is a lovely person inside and out.

It was the game, pizza and drinks.

Afterwards, we swam (not really) over to the Chart Room. It was like 11 o’clock. Packed! Sat and chatted with my football group.

Got to talk a bit with Issac and Sarah. They are both from Minnesota. Married. In Key West till the end of December. Sarah is doing some kind of homeless study. Issac is a Minnesota state trooper. He took time off from work to be with his wife. An engaging couple. Enjoyable people.

Stephanie was her usual self. A vocal outspoken today woman. I believe she and I have a generational gap problem. I know her parents read this blog every day. Worry not! Ain’t no one going to take advantage of your daughter!

Sean advised that Katherine’s trip this weekend to Little Rock was a success. Katherine found and bought her wedding dress. Sean said he is going to wear Key West attire. Shorts and a collared polo shirt.

The word was out last night. First time I heard it. John Lucas is opening a sports bar at the old PTs. November 13th. Twenty seven TV sets.

John is the general manager at Hot Tin Roof. I mention him often. A gentleman. Knows how to run a restuarant. And……a Wisconsin grad. When I chatted with him at the Chart Room last night, he was quick to advise they are still ranked 4th nationally.

John owned three sports bars back in Minnesota from whence he came. He knows the business and, without question, will do well.

I had a good time last night. Glad I went out!

Enjoy your Sunday!

I was correct regarding yesterday’s weather. It was a questionable day. Gray all day. Overcast.

Rained during the night. Raining now. Still overcast. Two days in a row! A Key West record of sorts. The only time I can recall consecutive overcast days is during a hurricane. The days are all black, not gray. Stay that way for two or more days. Day and night are the same.

Strong wind this morning. White caps in the water. The wind is blowing in hard from the north.

Great internet show yesterday. The Key West Lou Legal Hour. It is easy for the show to be good. The world is full of crazy happpenings. I just report and discuss them.

Post show comments indicate advertising for dogs garnering the most interest.

Nestle is the world’s largest food company. Nestle makes Purina. Dog food. Nestle has prepared a TV commercial directed specifically at dogs. It is presently being tested in Australia.

The commericial contains high pitched tones. Those that a dog can hear, but not a human. The concept is the dog will be attracted to the commercial and bark. The master will become aware of what the dog wants and Purina will fly off the shelves.

We have come a long way!

Viewers are also starting to comment on the China segments.

Four weeks ago, I started doing one or two things about China. My thought was China is a world power and we should know more about them. I am realizing that China is not what we believe or suspect. The country consists of a dynamic, modern and rapidly forward moving society.

It turns out that China’s communism may be the ultimate form of capitalism. The government wants its people to have everything. To share in wealth and the amenities it brings. The people work hard. Everyone eats. China has a booming middle class and it continues to grow.

The comments have picked up. More interestingly, viewers also. I now have four Chinese viewers that I am aware of. All women. All from Bejing.

After the show, I did a quick visit with Lisa.

Then to my friday men’s luncheon at Salute’s. At one point we were treated to a lengthy and stimulating discourse involving Occupy New York and where ever else. Two luncheon friends went at it. One a die in the wool Democrat, the other a conservative Republican. Or so they seemed.

The discourse was terrific! As I sat listening, all I couild think of was this is the way it must be in Washingtgon. Both sides, sincere, knowledgable and factual. Where is the compromise? Where can there be compromise? How do the two sides come together?

It is going to take a Solomon to figure this one out.

The Chart Room last night.

Sheila there. She is back to work, though her knee is still bothering her. Sean in attendance also. Alone. Katherine was in Little Rock with her Mom and bridesmaids buying a wedding dress.

Heathners Galloway joined us. An attractive young lady. A bright smile. A distinct southern accent. She works at Ocean Key with Katherine.

Sean and Heathers were having a bite to eat afterwards at the Green Parrot. They were transporting themselves to the Green Parrot Key West style. Bicycles.

They were taking to go drinks with them. In plastic cups. I asked how they were going to carry them? Heathers told me both bikes have cup holders for such an occasion.

Emily was back bartending! A big deal! I missed her the week end before. She had a few days vacation time and took them.

Today is Occupy Key West day. Tonight at 5 at Mallory Square. I am going for a while to watch. Not participate. But, who knows. I just might grab a poster, jump on the stage and shout…..let’s go get ’em!

This evening is Alabama/Mississippi State football. Sean is a Miss State grad. Jean Thornton an Alabama one. Sheila, David and I are going to join the two of them and watch the game at the Sports Page Bar.

I have seen Alabama play twice this year. The finest college football team I have ever seen! Mississippi State is going to get killed! Sean and I agreed on that last night.

Enjoy your day!

A different morning.

I can hear the water. Wind blowing. Palm tree branches crackling. No moon. No stars.

Rain?

I recall one of my first visits to Key West 25 years ago. A sales lady in some store told me it never rained in Key West. I left the converftible top down later when I parked the car. The rain that came was like a monsoon. When I got back to the car, there was about three inches of water on the floor. Avis was nice about it.

Visited the hospital yesterday morning. Kept Lisa company. She had a test.

Afterward, I stopped at Publix to pick up a few things. I think subconsciously I never buy enough so I have to return. I love Publix!

There is a sadness to it, also. Prices! I took particular note yesterday of the cost of things. Everything seems to to $3, $5 or $10.  The bill runs up rapidly at the cash register no matter how little is purchased.

The cost of food is killer!

Then the price of gasoline. It has dropped here in Key West the past three weeks. About $.45 a gallon. Still too high however at $3.70.

How are families doing it?

Tim Reynolds spent some time with me in the afternoon. He is my new computer guru. He should be yours. He has been taking care of my two computers. Excellent knowledgable service. Reasonably priced. His telephone number is 305-394-7030.

The interesting thing about Tim is that he was one of Key West’s outstanding chefs till seven years ago. He burned out. He had been playing around with computers. Went into repair work big time.

He’s good.

Bocce last night.

I had not played in two weeks. It was exciting to be back. We won all three games. 16-5, 16-5 and 16-7. A big night! And it was a money match besides!

At the start of the evening, we were tied for third place in the league standings. I believe that now we may be alone in second.

There was a waterspout just before we started playing. There are always waterspouts in Key West. Everyone stands and gawks at them. Even me. I have always wondered what would happen if a water spout came over me. Would I still be able to gawk afterwards?

Key West residents are good people. The best! Truly one human family.

An example was last night at bocce. I have played neither bocce nor golf for two weeks. I have been feeling under the weather. I was overwhelmed by the number of people and their concern who came over to ask me how I felt, glad I was back, etc.

Sincere and genuine all.

It is differengt here. I do not remember it being this way in my other place and other life.

I have to move my butt this morning. The Key West Lou Legal Hour at 10 my time. Available for seeing and hearing world wide at http://www.konkbroadcasting.com/. The news has been heavy. My topics will tend to be on the lighter side this week. But real!

Enjoy your day!

Another good morning!

Same as yesterday and the days before. Quiet. Nothing moving. Moon big, round and bright. All of which means another great day weatherwise for Key West.

I walked again yesterday morning. Three days in a row. Good for me!

Did the hotel route again. I walked by the Atlantic and through the beaches and pools of two large hotels. The Sounthernmost complex and the Reach.

I mentioned yesterday that I enjoy walking hotel grounds and that the bikini clad ladies are a sight to behold. Martin BK (the other Marty) commented that such was the…..essence of Key West.

Right he is!

My research yesterday took me back to 1915 and St. Gilles prison in Brussels. The time World War I.   Edith Cavell, a British nurse and spy,  was executed by firing squad by the Germans. She had helped 200 British prisoners escape.

Bocce tonight! I am ready to play. Missed last week because of my health. Bocce balls are heavy and the sun brutal.

Tomorrow the Key West Lou Legal hour. Ten in the morning my time. Join me. The internet carries the show world wide. http://www.konkbroadcasting.com/.

Once again, a terrific show is planned. Another crazy week has passed providing fodder for great topics. Like burial with a bang, the Columbian women who just ended a two month sex strike, a Texan freed after 25 years in jail by DNA, squid and same sex, strikes and protests in China, China and super luxury yachts, pot brownies put three seniors in the hospital following a funeral service, advertising directed at dogs/not humans, Egypt and Christians, and the poor me cry on Wall Street by the bankers.

And more!

Listen in! Watch! You will not be disappointed!

Enjoy your day!

Good morning world!

This morning is the same as the past few. Calm. Quiet.

I saw a glint of light between the branches of the palm tree next to the pool. I looked around the palm tree. It was the moon. The palm tree had hidden it from me in recent mornings.

It was the doctor’s again yesterday. Doctors should sell stock in themselves. Senior citizens would get rich!

I needed to have blood drawn. I hate the process. When I was 21, I was about to get married. One of the requirements in New York State at that time was a blood test. To make sure you did not have a venereal disease. I passed out as I watched the nurse draw my blood. Fifty five years later, I still am squeemish when it is to be done. I make sure I am sitting and close my eyes.

Visited afterwards with Lisa. My baby. She is my baby. The youngest of my four children.

Then I walked! Two days in a row! Walked in the opposite direction from the day before. From Square One to the Atlantic. Down the concrete dock sitting in the water. Around the grounds of the Southermost Complex. Then crossed the street and did the Reach.

I enjoy walking hotel grounds. The bikini clad ladies are a sight to behold.

The cupboard was bare again. I grocery shopped. A pleasurable experience for me. Publix is friendly. I greet old friends and make new ones. I was pressing heads of lettice. A delightful woman came up to me and asked if I was trying to decide which head was best to buy. I said yes. She showed me. That is how friends are made!

I stayed home last night. Wanted to watch the Republican debate at 9. I could not find it on my TV. I have over 300 channels available to me, yet could not get the debate. A bummer.

Today is Wednesday. Golf day. I am going to skip again this week. I feel good. But I do not wish to test my stamina on the golf couse yet. Next week.

My research was interesting yesterday. It was 1885 and I was in Naples.

Enjoy your day!
