Good morning!

Glad you are alive and well! Glad none of you are suffering from the massive earthquake and explosions predicted for today!

There is a prophet of sorts, perhaps a religious fanatic, named Harold Camping. He is an evangelical radio broadcaster. Owns Family Radio Worldwide. Mature. 89 years old.

Camping has an immense following. His radio stations are numerous. He has made money over the years buying and selling radio stations. He also benefits from all his religious followers who donate big time dollars to him and his church.

We are talking millions of dollars!

Camping predicted the world was going to end today. There would be the Apocalypse. Doomsday. Also the day of Rapture. Jesus Christ was to return.

Of all the people on earth, Camping said only three per cent were righteous and woud be taken by God immediately into Heaven. The remaining 97 per cent would be left to suffer on earth for five months till Octolber 21st when they would enter into eternal damnation.

Camping was able to predict not only the exact date, but also the specific time of the day the world would end. Based on  certain claimed/interpreted Biblical facts and his own mathematical calculations, today was the day. The time 6 pm. Six in the evening in each time zone. The world was not going to explode all at once. But by time zones.

The first time zone to go at 6 pm this date was New Zealand. It is already well past 6 pm in New Zealand. It is pushing midnight. New Zealand still exists. No earthquake. No explosions.

I am not worrying about 6 pm our time.

Camping’s followers are numerous. And as indicated before, support him and his church with tons of money. Many of his followers stopped working months ago to preach regarding the end of the world that was supposed to have occurred today.

I read an interesting comment yesterday about this end of the world thing. Several persons who believe stopped paying their bills months ago. Are they in for a surprise!

Someone once said there is a sucker born every minute. Some truth to it. Especially in this instance since Camping made a similar prediction in 1994. The world did not end. He said it was an error in computation. The most interesting thing was that his followers increased in size thereafter, even though he was wrong.

Mark Ryno is one of the nicest persons I have met in Key West. People call him Ryno.

I first met Ryno at the KONK radio station when I started doing my show. He was a big help to me. What did I know about radio!

We had something in common. We both came from Central New York. I from Utica and Ryno from Waterville. Waterville is a little town about 10 miles south of Utica.

Ryno recently left Key West.

I am pleased to report he is back in Central New York. He is disc jockeying a radio show that airs on KROCK in Syracuse and Utica.

Congratualtions Ryno! I am glad you are back in the business. I am sorry it is away from Key West. May you someday return.

Ally has a birthday party to attend today. Robert will be alone. I called him. We are finally going to Mr. Z’s to try out their Philly cheese steak sandwich.

Enjoy your day!

Ho ho ho!

I am late today. Sorry.

But…..obviously in a good mood!

Why not? I live in Key West! The weather is good. My friends are good. God is good.

I worked for a couple of hours yesterday afternoon with Jenna. We were fine tuning today’s internet show. After she left, I went to bed for an hour to rest up for bocce. The hour turned into two hours. I overslept and was late for bocce!

Ergo, I missed the first game. Which we lost. I played games 2 and 3, however.

I played with Don, Keith and David in game 2. We killed the opposition 16-2. We were excited. We could do no wrong. We wanted to win the third game. Badly. We hate a losing evening.

The four of us played the third game, also. As good as we were in game 2, that is how bad we were in game 3. Especially me. We lost whatever it was that makes you continue playing good. We were destroyed in game 3!

Afterwards was party time at Don’s Place. Jumping last night. Big time fun!

This morning was my internet show. The Key West Lou Legal Hour. Interesting topics. This past week has  been replete with controversial issues. Already I can report the two hot items discussed. The emails and telephone calls have been coming in heavy.
.
One is Arnold Schwarzenegger and his marital problem. The thrust of my comments were to the effect that sexual mores have changed in the last 60 years. Women partake of sex outside of marriage, also. For every man accused of pulling his fly down, there is a woman who could  not keep her panties up.

The other item involved a Brazilian court case where a woman with a chemical imbalance took her employer to court to get some relief. She did. The facts were simple. The woman was diagnosed as a compulsive orgasmic. Short for she needed to relief  herself by masturbating 40 times a day. The court ruled her emplyer had to give her 15 minutes every two hours to deal with the problem.

She was literally paid for masturbating.

Within two days, this decision had spread. Psychiatrists, psychologists, sex therapists and the like were and are all heralding the decision as forward moving.

Brazil has a reputation for being very employee conscious and supportive. Much like the French. Still the decision seemed a strange one. Though reported in several places, the Brazilian court was never specifically identified. I decided to do an internet search. I could not discover the identity of the court, except that it was Brazilian.

So I seriously question the veracity of this reported case. Which I also pointed out to my listening and watching audience.

The weather contiues to be spectacular! Magnificent! Beautiful! A bit warmer each day. Cool evenings.

The thought occurred to me today that hurricane season is around the corner. It has been five years since we were hit by one. Will this be the year?  Will we have to pay for the glorious weather these past five months?

I sound like that cartoon character from…..Little Abner? The little guy with the black cloud over his head!

Enjoy your day!

What a beautiful day! Fantastic weather!

We have had five consecutive months in Key West of this weather. I have been frequenting the keys for many years. I do not remember such a consistent period of such great weather. Warm by day. Cool by night.

The only nature problem is water. It has rained so little, water is becoming an acute problem. There is a desalizination process whereby sea water can be transformed into drinking water. Key West has such a process. It is in use. It contributes about ten per cent of our disposable water.

Key West days are generally all good. Yesterday was one of the best for me!

Golf in the morning!

I played with Kurt, Larry and Yankee Jack. I lost only $1. A very good day!

Kurt had major shoulder surgery several months ago. Yesterday was his first 18 holes in months. He shot an 87. Good! His score included four greens where he 3 putted.

Kurt was the big winner! $16.

Mikey played in the other foursome. I learned that Mikey and Marisa will be leaving Key West in about two weeks. For good. They are returning to their home area of Louisville. Both have families there. Mikey and Marisa are ready to start their own family. Mikey has a terrific job waiting for him. To do with body parts, real and artificial.

Don is sponsoring a scramble on Memorial Day for Mikey and Marisa. Afterwards, there will be an all day and all night party at Don’s Place for them.

I spent the afternoon resting.

My night started at the Chart Room. Emily bartending. She had just returned from a two week trip to the Northern Banks.

My compatriot from the night before, Sheila, was there. Plus David, Sean and Katherine.

Half Buck Freddies has a discount store on Caroline. It is where the old PT’s used to be. David has managed the discount facility for several years.

He told me the discount store will be no more as of August 1. Someone has bought the building and a restaurant is going to open.

Everything changes. Change is the only constant in life.

Dave already has another job. He is going to be at the County Courthouse. As a court stenographer. He apparently is replacing Marty who has retired from his Key West work.

Jenna arrived. She had been at a meeting and we had made plans to meet at the Chart Room. We chatted with David and Sheila a bit. Then Jenna and I headed over to the Hot Tin Roof. We sat at the bar, talked and ate some appetizers.

Then we split. Jenna went home. I went to Don’s place. I wanted to watch the second half of the Miami/Chicago game.

Don’s Place was packed. Really packed!

I visited with Rob. Watched the game with Boomer and Russ. My golfing buddy Angus was a few seats down at the bar. A good guy!

The sound portion of the game was off. Loud music was being piped in. A lot of dancing going on around the pool table. All of a sudden there were four lovely ladies on the bar dancing!

Young and beautiful! All in tight shorts. They must have done this bar dance routine before. They did it well. In unison. A chorus line.

At first, I was irritated. The game was tied at 73 all. Their butts were blocking the TV screen.

I soon mellowed and accepted what was. I could always catch the rest of the game on the reruns!

Bocce tonight! Love it! And the people who show up every thursday to play. A happy friendly cross section of Key West.

Tomorrow morning at 10 is my internet show. The Key West Lou Legal Hour.

So much to talk about! This past week has been exciting.

One issue I am going to get into is sex. The Arnold Schwartzenneger situation has permeated the media the last few days.

I am 75 years old. I have lived through much of the sexual cultural mores in the United States. I can recall the 1950s when females were reluctant to have sex outside of marriage for fear of pregnancy. Then came the birth control pill in the l960s. The sexual world changed! Many women discovered their sexual drives were comparable to mens’. They could enjoy without fear of pregnancy.

At the beginning of the post pill discovery era, married women were still less prone to have sex outside their marriage. Such has changed over the years. Statistics now show a growing trend in women of all ages who cheat outside marriage.

I am neither being moralistic nor judging. However, one thing has become clear to me over the years. Marital infidelity is a two way street. For every man who pulls his fly down, there is a woman who pulls her panties down!

I have two points. First, lets get off the man’s back. Women are playing big time, also. Second, the brief history I have set forth clearly shows a changing sex culture over the last 60 years. Understand that change and recall it before coming down on the man alone.

Excuse me for being Biblical, but let he/she who is without sin cast the first stone.

I will concede that there still remain those without sin. One stroke of the brush does not paint all persons.

Obviously going to be a good show tomorrow! http://www.konkbroadcasting.com/.

Enjoy your day!

Back in the early 1960s when I was a young lawyer in Utica, I met a young female reporter. Her name was Ann.

Ann remained in Utica for a short time. I never heard from her again till about 10 years ago. We ran into each other at some fund raiser at East Martello. She and her husband were living in Big Pine.

A small world!

Since then, Ann and I get together for lunch about two times a year. Yesterday was one of those times.

We met at Hogfish.

Ann’s life is full. She has recently been elected Vice Commodore of the Coast Guard Auxillary. Keeps her busy.

She mentioned that when the whale crisis occurred at Cudjoe Key, her group were there to help. You will recall that the grandkids and family and I tried to walk in off the road to see. We could not. The area was blocked off.

I spent the afternoon writing. Under the tiki hut. Wearing a bathing suit this time.

I had no plans last night.

My car found its way to Don’s Place. Rob was bartending. Only a few customers. Quiet. I did not stay long.

I then headed over to the Chart Room. Glad I did. Sheila was there. We spent a couple of hours talking and laughing. Sheila is good people!

Met Mary who was filling in as bartender.

Then it was back to Don’s Place. Packed this time. Chatted with Bebe.

I stopped at Publix on the way home. The best time to shop is before closing. No one there.

This morning golf! Love it! Something is wrong, however. I have reached that point in my life where it is more exciting than sex. Sex is becoming a memory.

Enjoy your day!

Key West days are consistent! Weatherwise! Outstanding!

Yesterday started with an early morning dentist visit. An easy one this time. No discomfort. Some stitches removed. The next visit in a couple of weeks will be a pain!

I had an interesting visit yesterday afternoon. I was sitting naked at the tiki hut writing when I heard the door bell. Visitors are few so dress is not a concern.

It was Skip. Who the hell is Skip I thought. He had his lady friend in the car. He seemed like he knew me. I invited them in. But said wait a minute till I get some clothes on!

Turns out I had met Skip. about two years ago. He is related to my next door neighbor who is never here.

Skip is Skip Carlson. Retired. Now living in Boyington Beach. The lady friend was Roz. Roz Kornblum. A wonderful woman! Enjoyed her tremendously.

Roz was married to a Florida Circuit Court Judge in Palm Beach County for years. Judge Allen Kornblum. He passed on. Now she and Skip are friends.

A lawyer’s wife is a lawyer also. She lives with her husband and his trials day in and day out for years. So the conversation Roz and I had was stimulating and refreshing.

Skip and Roz were here for a couple of hours. After leaving me, they were heading north back  to home in Boyington Beach. I am sure we will visit further when next they return. We hit it off.

Although my dentist visit was relatively pain free, I had some discomfort last night. So I stayed in.

I would like to do something different today. I do not know what.

Enjoy your day!

What a great morning!

I spent yesterday laying around outside. Spent some time in the pool, some time sunning myself and some time sitting under the tiki hut writing.

Lisa and Ally stopped over later in the afternoon to swim.

Robert’s birthday yesterday. Seven years old. We celebrated last night after dinner. Robert has been celebrating for two days. He had his kids’ party saturday morning. Went to a friend’s birthday party yesterday morning. Did his thing with the family last night.

The cake was chocolate! We were all happy! Robert would not let Ally help him blow out the candles. First time he has not shared the experience with her. Part of growing up?

I stopped at Don’s Place on the way home. Chatted with Kurt and Russ. It was Kurt’s day off, but he still returned to the bar where he works to play. Russ had two weddings yesterday at the Reach. So he was a bit tired when he showed up.

Mikey came in. His night off from Schooners Wharf.

Amazing how everyone finds there way to Don’s Place!

I was home and in bed before nine.

This morning, the dentist again. It is back to my childhood for me. I am fearful of going to the dentist!

Enjoy your day!

Happy Sunday!

Another glorious Key West day!

Today is Robert’s birthday. He is 7 years old. Tall and thin. Handsome. Happy. He has Corey’s features and Lisa’s disposition.

I spent a lot of time yesterday shopping for his gifts. I ended up buying him many as opposed to one big gift. Toys and clothes. I am not sharing specifically what as Robert is computer savy. He occasionally reads this blog. I will share the nature of the gifts with you tomorrow.

I have a habit. It applied with all my grandchildren. Cannot just buy birthday gifts for the one who is celebrating. All must get a gift. Just a small something or other so they do not feel left out. So Ally will benefit also.

We do the birthday thing after Sunday dinner this evening. I hope the candles will sit on a chocolate cake.

I was going to stop at the Chart room and Don’s Place last night to visit with friends. I never made it. I stepped outside as the sun was setting. Beautiful! The weather was perfect. No breeze. No humidity. Not hot. Not cool. The water silent. Everything quiet. Nothing moving.

This was not to be missed. I ended up sitting outside alone with my thoughts for two hours.

And then to bed.

Enjoy your Sunday!

I am better! No question about it. Slept well two nights in a row. My body is energized. It was a rough week.

The weather continues to be perfect. A little more humid each day. It is 2-3 shower time. Nights cool enough to sleep with the windows open.

Big day today! A time of international celebration. It is World Naked Gardening Day.

Too bad I do not have a garden!

This is a for real celebration. The Day was started in 2005 by several nudist groups. Took hold world wide. It is the combination of man in his natural state with the earth. Nudists compare the experience to skinny dipping.

I had a terrific time last night! Jenna and me!

We started at Schooners Wharf. A first for Jenna.

Mikey was working. He manages Schooners. His wife Marisa bartends. A busy place. Every one works hard.

I was under the impression Mikey and Marisa had a young son. Mikey is always talking about his son. I mentioned to Marisa how impressed I was that she could be a wife, mother and work all at the same time. She looked at me strangely and then laughed! They have no son. The son Mikey always refers to is his dog!

Mikey and Marisa just returned from four days in Louisville. They went to the Kentucky Derby.

By this time, Jenna and I were hungry but not hungry. We decided to go to the Hot Tin Roof and just order sides.

Congenial John was there. He is the restaurant manager. A Wisconsin fan as I am a Syracuse fan.

The sides are great at Hot Tin Roof. Jenna ordered macaroni and cheese. Your childhood never leaves you when it comes to macaroni and cheese. I had tomatoes and mozzarella.

Afterwards, we took a walk. Then I took Jenna home.

On my way home, I stopped at Don’s Place. Sat with Russ. Chatted with Russ and Kurt, who was bartending.

As I said earlier, I had a good night’s sleep. Like a baby!

I woke this morning to a Hulk Hogan/3 ninja movie. Hogan is my new found friend that I met for the first time last week at Hogfish.

This is Robert’s weekend. His 7th birthday is tomorrow.

Robert is special. He was born with cancer of the liver. He had two major surgeries the first eight days of his life. He is A-ok! God is good!

This morning he his having a birthday party at his home with seven boys. No girls. His call. He will learn!

Tomorrow is the real day. We will celebrate at Sunday dinner.

Today, I will be out shopping for his gifts. Things are limited in Key West. It will be K Mart, Borders and two children toy stores. It will be interesting to see what I come up with.

Enjoy your day!

What a difference a day makes!

I have been under the weather since Monday morning. Wednesday and yesterday were terrible. I did not play golf Wednesday , nor did I play bocce last night. My jaw was still killing me from Monday’s surgery.

I had been in bed since Monday morning. Yesterday, I just had to get up!

Yesterday afternoon I headed over to Tammy at Lee Nails for a manicure. I felt good. My body obviously needed to move around.

I went to bocci last night. I had earlier called Don and told him I would not be playing. I sat and watched. That lousy feeling was back again.

The team played well without me. They won 2 out of 3 games.

Afterwards, I headed over to Don’s Place. Still felt crappy. But had a need to be around people.

I figured a couple of drinks would not hurt. Ended up having three gins and a shot of tequila.

What pain? There was no pain! The drinks were more helpful than the pain killers the dentist had me on.

I slept like a baby all night. And today I feel terrific!

Don’s CLINIC was the effective pain killer!

So…..I am going out tonight againt. Jenna and me. We will start at Schooners Wharf. Then the Chart Room. Then…..I am not sure. There is a couple performing at San Carlos tonight. A gypsy couple. They willl be playing and dancing flamenco music. Might go there. I like flamenco.

Key West loves Harry Tuman. And he apparently loved Key West. He made eleven trips here for a total of 175 days while President. As a result, the building he stayed in us now known as the Little White House. It is listed on the National Registry.

The Little White House conducts a symposium every year. This year’s symposium is this weekend. It is entitled: The Civil Liberties Legacy of Harry S Truman. It will be well attended with people from all over the world. Notable figures will participate. One of them is Clifton Truman Daniel, the noted author. His father was the publisher or editor of the New York Times back when. Most importantly, Daniel is Truman’s grandson..

Today is Friday the 13th. Be careful! Of black cats. Hard to do here in Key West. And…..do not walk under any ladders!

Since Osama bin Laden’s death, we have learned much more about him. The little details. Like he had 6 wives and 17 children.

I am impressed. And unquestionably do not know how he did it. I had enough trouble with one wife. Perhaps having six wives influenced his behavior. There is only so much one man can take.

The Islamic faith permits multiple wives. The reverse is not true, however. Muslim wives are not permitted multiple husbands. The Islamic faith is male oriented. Something that would not fly in our present American culture.

Enjoy your day!

I am not a happy camper!

Shoot me! Put me out of my agony!

I did not sleep last night. Not one minute.

Pain has joined the game. Not real pain. More like gross discomfort.

My temples feel like they are in a vise. One that gets periodically tightened. I am ready to confess!

My jaw aches. Upper and lower. My stomach is on the rough side.

I had stopped the pain pills tuesday. Took one at 2 this morning. Just took another. Minimal help.

My dentist said it would be bad for 2-3 days. Followed by two weeks of discomfort.

The sad part of all this is that we are not done with the surgery on the upper jaw. We still have to do the front. Oh !!!!!!!

The only benefit is that I have lost another two pounds. Makes for a total of seven since monday. Me and my blender!

I may write a short book on food preparation and a blendetr. Would be quite interesting. Yesterday I wanted a ham sandwich for lunch. Threw some ice in the blender, followed by ham, cheese, mustard and bread. Topped it with water. Voila! Tasted just like a ham sandwich!

Tonight bocce! I want to go. I want to play. I want to get out of the house!

If the blood is manageable and I do not look like Dracula after a meal, I will go.

One of the benefits of being in home confinement is that I have completed friday’s/tomorrow’s internet show a day early. Except for some fine tuning with Jenna later today, I am ready to go. Assuming of course I can talk for an hour straight tomorrow morning!

Great topics! Like Philip Morris’ CEO’s statement that it is not hard to stop smoking, Newt Gingrich’s candidacy and his oil company support, the Egyptian male convict who tried to eascape prison by dressing as a woman, Donald Trump to star in a comic book, ending big oil subsidies, poincianas, Utah and Arizona re show me your papers!, arbitration back before US Supreme Court with credit cards, federal monies available past 20+ years for autism where caused by childhood vaccine, US Navy stops chaplain training program for same sex marriages, Oregon Senate bans mail order suicide kits, Texas Senate ok’s guns on campus, Alaska and sex, children and hunger, Arizona weird dumb laws, Florida’s new inartfully drawn beastiality law, and more.

My plate is full! The show interesting! Join me over the internet at 10 am at http://www.konkbroadcasting.com/.

Thanks for your sympathetic get well soon emails. There are too many for me to respond personally. I apologize.

Enjoy your day! I hope mine improves!
